I can't wait to put the incubator back together and get it fired up again. guess I'll start it up Wednesday night. My eggs should get here thursday and I'll set on Friday evening after dinner.
Here's a link to the auction post that shows pictures of the breeding chickens she's collecting her eggs from. I'm excited.

So what breed of eggs did you purchase? I'm excited to find someone else in the same thread hatching from Mrs. Pickens. It will be fun to compare notes. I got the dozen asst. cochin banty eggs. She has so much to choose from.

Matlock yay!! Julie..I like the minnow bucket! Less of a fire hazard than the box

Well...I started with 37 eggs...12 Ameraucanas, 3 Buff Orps, 3 Light Brahmas, 6 Silver Spangled Hamburgs, 6 Blue Splash Marans and 7 Black Copper Marans...
25 made it to lockdown ... I hatched 3... 1 Ameraucana, 1 Silver Spangled Hamburg and 1 Black Copper Maran. I will post pics a little later.

Besides some temp fluctuations, the only thing I did different from the 1st hatch was I turned off the fan during lock down. The last 10 that were moving in the float test, were all dead in the shell.
But I got 3 at least...cost per chick just went way up! Oh well....

Incubator is cleaned out and 13 lavender orps are already swaying in the turner!

I really hope this one turns out better!

Here's a good article...there are tons of them out there! Don't give up! Each hatch is a learning experience...even for the most experienced hatchers!

And of course, the BYC Learning Center! https://www.backyardchickens.com/lcenter.html

Thank you for this info. I think I figured out something else that might have gone wrong.
Not all my eggs were set with the small end down.

I am going to study this alot as I have 8 silkie eggs that will be here on Friday or Saturday. I want to make it this time.

I just pushed mine down each time I turned them, where the small end pointed down. I hatched 4 out of 5 on my first hatch in a home made. I think that does matter.
Also, don't get the humidity too high for the first 18 days. Where I live at ( the beautiful rolling hills of middle Tennessee ) I didn't need any water till lockdown.
Hope ya' get it right.

I've been working long hours last 3 days so My post is late. Sorry! Well I locked down Sunday night. And today i checked bator and I have 3 hatched 3 peeping 1 zipping. WE shall see. The funny thing is a friends cat caught what she thought was a chick but no chickens in neighborhood . She called me and of course I said bring it to me, well I think it's a wild turkey poult. About 54-6 days old.
