I just set eggs this morning 3-13-12 Has anyone else?

Is there a reason that you've never candled? I'm a candling junkie, I have all the charts from each hatch with all the info I gathered from candling.

I wait until it's dark, turn off all the lights in the house and candle with an LED flashlight. I find it works best if you shine the flashlight through the end with the aircell while the egg is on the side.

Not sure why I never felt the need to candle. Maybe I'll try it tonight. Will it work this far along?

You should be able to see the air cell and possibly a bit of "growing room". If the eggs are dark without a visible aircell it means they have already pipped internally, but you probably won't see that yet.

If there is still a bit of growing room, you'll be able to see movement from the chick, you'll also be able to see some nice fat veins too.

Let us know if you do candle, and what you can see.

Hello! This is my first time hatching. I set 12 cornish eggs and 8 swedish ducks on the 15th... since apparently I am the only one that picked the 15th. Mind if I hang out with you guys :) It'll be fun watching all yours hatch first! I'm getting so excited about lock down! Our temp fluctuated a lot (I had to move the incubator to another room with huge windows) the last few days. Hope I didn't kill them all. Good luck everybody!

Welcome aboard and good luck to you too!

Well, the only flashlight I have is a huge mag light. The first egg I grabbed had an aircell and the rest was a black mass. Didn't see veins or movement. Second and third egg were clear. : ( Forth egg had air cell and black mass. I didn't do the rest. Hmmm, I guess I need to go back and do the rest and get rid of the clear ones.

Hello,

I candled last night too. My aircells look odd shaped too. I have had this recurring nightmare that none of my eggs hatch. I think I am going to go buy a humidifier for the room that the incubaotr is in as our house is so dry. I am afraid that I can't get my humidity up high enough. It has been so cold here and our house is dry:( I am going into lockdown tonight before I go to bed. These last few days are going to be LONG

Have a great day everyone.

Well I tried to candle once again and had 5 clear eggs. I removed them, stuck them in a ziplock bag, then cracked them open. They were all duds thank God. I would of felt awful if I did it wrong, and there were babies inside. I worried all night thinking the rest of these eggs are no good. Some of the aircells were huge and never did see movement in any of the remaining eggs. I did see condensation on the little windows this morning, which always happens toward the end of my hatches. So there must be a few that are alive.

Got my hatcher warming, so excited. Discovered one of the hygrometers is way off. Kinda hope it's the one I've been using for the incubator cause it's been fluctuating tremendously any time I spray the duck eggs. Added a load of water to the hatcher, I'm going to stick both of them in there in a little bit and see what they do.

Just candled again and decided to do every one of them this time. Out of 10 ducks, looks like 6 are still growing, out of 12 chickens, looks like 8 are making it to lock down. I think that's pretty good for a first time go with shipped eggs. Most of the eggs that quit have large air cells, so I think it's mostly due to shipping. Next time I buy eggs I think I'll get them somewhere I can drive to.

I thought some of you were talking lockdown yesterday?? Updates?? What's happening?? I need my fix so I will stop candling and hovering over my bators!
