I just set eggs this morning 3-13-12 Has anyone else?

I have three pips this morning. I checked them at 2 am and nothing(Husband has a cold and snoring up a storm so couldn't sleep anyway:). Then when I got up at 6 there were three with pips. I was supposed to go shopping with a friend but this is much more exciting:)

Today should be my hatch day. I checked this morning before leaving for work. No pips yet but I could hear some chirping going on inside the eggs. Lucky I dont live very far from work and I will be running home at lunch to check on them!

Hello,

Yeah, they do make brooders. I bought their bigger one as the smaller one was on back order. I have their incubator too and so far I really like it. This is my first hatch so time will tell. It has kept temp really good. When are you going into lock down? Have you candled?

Alice

I have three brooders, two 110 quart plastic tubs about 16 inch's tall by three feet long and 15 wide from Big Lots Store, and another tub 20 inches tall 2 fee long and 18 wide clear plastic so I can see my chicks. I have a pair of Easter Eggers 6 week old in one long from feed and seed store, a pair of Nankin Bantams I hatch 6 weeks ago in the tall bub. I have 10 Nankin Bantam eggs due to hatch any minute now LOL. They are getting the long one to play in. Rod made a lid for the tub out of plywood, cut a large hole in it, covered the hole with wire, he the screwed a small 2x4 to the bottom of the end of plywood drilled a hole though plywood and 2x4, inserting a dowel through hole with a heat lamp attached to top of dowel. I can move the dowel up and down to adjust heat in brooder. I this fixes the short brooder, if I need it for the long brooder, i just we plastic netting I got to cover my fish pond, very strong and cheat, I cut a small piece and laid it over the open end of tub and clipped on with those metal paper office clips, do not know what they are called, made of black Metal with two wire you squeeze to open them and put your papers in. So each brooder cost about $16.00, clamp on work light for about $9.00 have seen at feed & seed store, a 60 watt red bulb Home depot for $6.00, Do not laughter, I needed another heat lamp so went to bi-mart got a black light bulb, low watt, for $6.00 put it on a short lamp, and use in the tall with plywood over it holds in heat real well for older chicks. I you want to see picture let me know, I will post on my Facebook page, you will have to ask to be my friend to get, tell me your from BYC, I host a lot of chick picture there, Look up Carol Hansen Roseburg Oregon, if have trouble finding me just post me in here, and I can email you pictures. I think we all can teach each other a lot, I know I have learned a lot from you all. Carol

10 Nankin Bantams, been in lock down. I also have Duck eggs in incy, so much fun new peeps. Rolling then for another week. Gertrude my Muscovy mix we rescued from the VA Hospital last fall, does not lay fertile eggs, so I am hatching some fertile eggs from Bonnie in Ten mile, Oregon. Gertrude is laying right now so the timing is perfect, she come up to the chicks and coos at them, to come with her, but alas they

do not understand her, so she walks away sad.

LOL
I just went though that, moved incy to my bedroom, put caked BLRW Bantam under staircase in washroom, and set my double decker brooder on wheels with 2 Easter Egger & 2 Nankin Bantams all 6 weeks old in the dinning room. We had Daughter & Son-N-Law and three grandchildren drive out form Illinois, stopped in Colorado to pick up Son; all came to visit Rod & I, in Roseburg Oregon. We went from 2500 SF home to a 1500 SF new two bedroom home. Two queen mattress on living room floor, baby crib in guest room with Daughter and son-in-law. We sure loved having them only make it to Oregon every couple years. The Grandchildren love getting the BLRW Bantam eggs each day, and named the standard Easter eggers, Nimrod and Zebra!

Well, the only flashlight I have is a huge mag light. The first egg I grabbed had an aircell and the rest was a black mass. Didn't see veins or movement. Second and third egg were clear. : ( Forth egg had air cell and black mass. I didn't do the rest. Hmmm, I guess I need to go back and do the rest and get rid of the clear ones.

I am hatching 10 Nankin Bantams today sadly I have lost two after hatching, have three out and 5 eggs getting ready to pee. So hard keeping my hands off them. I have puck eggs in incy, so move pees and eggs to brooder under heat lamp. Wish me luck, it is very hard to get Nankin eggs, they are on the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy at http://www.albc-usa.org/ Critical list, "The Nankin is an ancient breed of fowl that is thought to be one of the oldest known bantam chickens. The bird’s initial point of origin is obscured in history going back beyond all known records. There is evidence that the bird arrived in England prior to the 1500’s and there is even speculation that it may have been present well before then."
