I just set eggs this morning 3-13-12 Has anyone else?

We have a rabbit cage as a brooder, but since I'm now an addict....I picked up a large plastic tote and use that as a second brooder. It was only $12, and we cut part of the top out of it and attached a lamp and some hardware cloth.

It was cheap and easy.

I may have to use a temporary tote. My only other option is to use a pond liner shell I have stored in my garage. I've used it once before as a brooder and it worked out great. The only problem is that it's huge, and the last time I used it, it was set up in my dining room. lol. I guess today I'll be cleaning out a spot in my garage for set up.

I am getting my brooder ready too... I have a small one for the first two weeks and then move them to a bigger one. It is so exciting. This has been the longest two and a half weeks of my life

. I always thought I was a patient person, but now I know different:)

I bought a new Brinsea brooder. Does anyone else use one of those?

Good luck everyone. Keep me posted as they hatch.

Alice

Good luck to you too Alice. I never knew Brinsea made brooders. I knew they made incubators ,and from what I've been told the incubators are great.

Hello,

Yeah, they do make brooders. I bought their bigger one as the smaller one was on back order. I have their incubator too and so far I really like it. This is my first hatch so time will tell. It has kept temp really good. When are you going into lockdown? Have you candled?

I go into lock down Saturday, how about you? This will be my 6th hatch and I've never candled before.

Is there a reason that you've never candled? I'm a candling junkie, I have all the charts from each hatch with all the info I gathered from candling.

I wait until it's dark, turn off all the lights in the house and candle with an LED flashlight. I find it works best if you shine the flashlight through the end with the aircell while the egg is on the side.

Hello,

I am going into lockdown on Friday night before I go to bed. Wow, this is exciting stuff

I have only candled once and I think I have one clear egg so I will take that out on lockdown day. Might candle again then too, but not sure. I have 22 eggs in my incubator and am afraid they are going to be very crowded in there for hatching. Live and Learn, I guess.

Hello! This is my first time hatching. I set 12 cornish eggs and 8 swedish ducks on the 15th... since apparently I am the only one that picked the 15th. Mind if I hang out with you guys :) It'll be fun watching all yours hatch first! I'm getting so excited about lock down! Our temp fluctuated a lot (I had to move the incubator to another room with huge windows) the last few days. Hope I didn't kill them all. Good luck everybody!

We would love to have you join....the more the merrier:) I love the swedish ducks. I have one pair and they are so sweet and friendly. My temps have been steady but humidity has been low. I hope I can get it up for lockdown. I hope everyone updates as they hatch. I love to see pictures of everyones babies.

Headed to set up brooder now.
