I just set eggs this morning 3-13-12 Has anyone else?

I recently purchased a LG and was my first time using it and got a 100 percent hatch, all hatching on the 21th day. I dont understand the bad rap, I had very good luck with it. I think some peolpe just stress on the couple degree variations but I just set it for 100 F and kept the humidity between 35-45 and let it go. It would drop a degree or two at night but it just left it alone and had a great hatch...JMTC

Hm... no movement since then.... I think one of my kids must have pushed it reaching for something. I just want to see proof of life!! Knowing my luck they'll be late hatchers... if they hatch :p

Buzzard - There are two problems most people including myself have with the LG. It is too sensitive to the temp of the location. Our house fluctuates by 8-9 degrees during the day and it causes the LG to change greatly unless monitored. When I get up in the morning it's 97-95 and if leave the house and don't get back till late afternoon it has been as high as 105. Also I have trouble getting the humidity to level, it probably has to do once again with the increased heat causing too much to evaporate out. If you have a well insulated house that doesn't change greatly during the day it'd probably be a great bator. I plan on selling mine and upgrading to a self regulated one.

Hummm, I guess I must be lucky, lol,,I live on a farm and the house is 110 yrs old, so not sure about insulation, but I do see spikes of 101 and lows of 97 but in any event I had a 100 percent hatch first time, I just didnt realy spend a lot of time, watching the thermometer and let it go. However, in the summer I can see how I could start having real problems when its 95 outside here in NC. Prob then spikes would be a problem. I think I wont push my luck, and stick to just doing spring hatches!

I have an LG too and mine is during a perfect job. I have 7 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs set in it that are due to hatch on April 12th. I candled them a couple of days ago and I have 7 out of 7 developing well. I'm hoping to get a 100% hatch as well. I just got the LG incubator last month and so far I'm loving. I haven't seen the temperature swing at all except for when I open it to add more water. I built an incubator last summer and I'm still using it this summer. My first hatch last week didn't go so well, but the next eggs are doing pretty good. I've only had the temperature swing down to 97 degrees when opening it to turn the eggs (I don't have an auto-turner in the hand built one).

Around here it can be in the low 40s and nearly a 100 the next day. I bet you don't have a ton of windows in your house, we have large windows in every room, it's pretty, but a pain.

Hello,

I woke up to seven babies this AM....3 ameracaunas, 3 buckeyes, and a java:) They are so cute. And I have two more pipping as we speak. They are very crowded in the incubator though. I want to take them out but everything I have read says leave them in there for 24 hrs. They would have so much more room in their brooder. Do you guys leave them in?

Thanks

I take mine out. If your worried about a humidity drop, place the incubator in a steamy bathroom, and then take them out really fast.

Anything yet??

I ended up with four chicks from the 8 eggs that I set. 2 light/coronation sussex, 1 lavender orp., and 1 blue orp. Here's a picture of my little ones this morning, all dry and fluffy (and all refusing to sit still or look at the camera!):

wannabe - What cute fluffy butts!

Anything yet??

Eh, no, I'm pretty sure another egg rolled around while I was gone today, but like I said before it could just as easily be a kid pushed it. I'm only on day 20 and everyone keeps telling me to be patient cause I may have another 4 days for all I know, but the suspense is killing me! I thought I had my temps high enough for them to hatch by the 21st day. I posted another thread asking opinions on whether to keep the bator in my laundry room or move it into another room. Not sure if it's a good idea to move to another room that probably fluctuates more than the laundry room, but I'm worried about the eggs shifting when I move it from washer to dryer and back. Hmph......
