I just set my first batch of eggs!! Got first chicks!! pics pg3

Recandled tonight and the question ones are good, a diffrent one had a blood ring and the third just wasn't developed at all. So now 24 good growing eggs in the bator.

Hi I am new to BYC and to incubating eggs. I just set mine yesterday. (16 Salmon Favorolles.) I have 4 White Maran hens and 1 White Maran rooster. I didn't realize how cool chickens are. I always heard they were mean and not good pets. I have found them to be rather fun for me and the kids. This is my first hatch and I am a ball of nerves. Strange how you can worry about those little eggs. I think my temps are ok running a homemade incubator and it is staying at about 97-100 it does cool slightly when I hand turn them. My humidity gets a bit high and I worry about that. it has been fluxuating from 45 -75 . Seems I have to add a few drops of water, then it goes a bit to high. I read that this is more important later on , is this true? it is a forced air bator.

Enemeanie good luck with your hatch, this is my first one also. Everything I have learned so far has been from the stickys at the top in the incubating and hatching page. I actually bought the hovabator1588 because it seems pretty fool proof. After it came my husband looked at it and said I could of made that out of a cooler. I wasn't brave enough to do that. Honestly I have no clue about the humidity, this bator just tells you what to fill with water and when. Good luck and I hope you get your humidity figured out.

Thank you. I am on pins and needles... I am on day three now, I really want to candle, but doubt I would know what I am looking at yet lol. If this doesnt work I will probably by an incubator.... I am so excited!!

Well only 3 more days left. So I filled both things with water like the directions said. Now no opening the incubator and just hope for a good hatch.

I hope all goes well for you... I am on day 12 now so I am waiting patiently too. I candled them and saw good movements in 5 eggs and one is actually a twin. I am not to optimistic about that one by the posts, but so far they are growing and moving around. One of the eggs actually had a foot showing that was cool. I am excited and I cant wait till the day I can quit turning and start waiting!!
