I just started my very first silkie eggs in an foam incubator ....

You can try a damp sponge or washcloth

Still Air - 101 degrees
Incubator with fan - 99.5 degrees

Turn three times a day - Morning, Afternoon, Night

Humidity 45-50 first 18 days

Candle on day 7/8 and toss the bad ones.

The Night of the 18th day up the humidity to 70/75 degrees
by adding warm water.

REMEMBER the eggs have to loose a certain percentage of moisture. that creates an air cell and room for the chicks to stretch and be able to turn/twist in the shell to break it open by piping around the egg and popping the top off.

Thank you very much

okay... my temp keeps fluctuating... yesterday (my first day it was fine...100 then noticed last night that it was staying at 99

Is 99 too low?? and how can I increase the temp to 101? My incubator is a HOVA-Bator 40watt without Fan...

Don't it have a knob to turn????

I turn mine a 1/4 of a turn

lHold the top of the Knob so it dont turn while you loosen the nut
THEN turn the knob a quarter of a turn.
THEN hold the top of the knob again while you tighten the nut again SO the knob wont twist at the same tim..

If your new to candling I would not toss out the eggs you think are bad until day 14. Sometimes you think they are bad on day 7 and they could still be good.

Write down what ones you think are bad but keep incubating them. I have been amazed to see a chick moving around in the egg on day 14 that I never saw on day 7.

Good luck!!

Edited to add: sorry missed that you are incubating white eggs so they are eaiser to see into.
