I just told my daughter to steal a sick rooster!!! Pic Heavy!!!

Since we got her home and hour or so ago, her comb is getting darker around the back edge and it is totally flopping over. What is wrong????? Could this just be the stress of the new environment??? And she wouldn't eat medicated chick feed and I noticed that most of the stuff stuck to her butt was scratch, so sure enough, we tried a smorgasbord of scratch, pellets and chick feed. Sure enough, the only thing she would eat was scratch. I bet that is all she ever had. How will I get her to eat layer pellets??

Good job bird napper.

I hope she gets better and I'm sure that the feed store will understand your daughter taking the bird. Shame on them (if it was theirs) for letting that girl be so neglected.

Wow... kudos to you and your daughter for saving the poor hen! I can't believe how bad her pasty-butt was. I don't have any advice or answers to your questions... but thank you for taking her under your wing!

I wouldn't worry about that comb too much. She is still alert and eating. My old non-laying sexlink girl's comb looks like that. I bet that girl isn't laying now either, but never know. Her heart rate is probably down and settling in.

Oh and, she will never ever go back.

She loves to be pet and just relaxes and closes her eyes. Since I can't even imagine trying to introduce her to our flock as a single gal (when she is healthy) this is the first time I have been tempted to try chicken diapers and have an indoor chicken. But the two dogs would definitely be an issue. Jessica just suggested going back and getting the Buff Orp that was in the cage with her. Then at least there would be two of them. The other one looked to be totally healthy. But who knows, after being exposed to this one.

Did they have food in that cage? I wonder what type of business would have a bird in such shape? I would go down first thing in am and get that other BO. Not a very good advertisement for that feed store.

Does anyone care for them over the weekend?? What if it rained, what kind of cages are they kept in that they can just be taken away like that?

Glad she is feeling better.

You and your daughter are so wonderful - thank you

Shame on that store for not taking good care of this poor being.
I hope she will be well. She certainly will know what love feels like.

They were in a small dog run type thing that was half covered by a tarp at elevation 2500 where it rains and snows constantly in winter and it was COLD today. The idiot who closed up last had forgotten to put the padlock on the latch (thank God, it was hanging on the gate) so I was able to get in and get her (this is Jessica typing by the way). She was all balled up and non-responsive. I just walked in there, put her in my emptied handbag, and walked out with her. She gave me no fuss or struggle whatsoever. I am convinced that she would have given up the ghost by nightfall had I left her there. Some people just make me want to knock their heads together! :thun
