As a person who has struggled with a weight problem all my life if my kids didnt want to eat something I just put it in the frig until they were hungry and ready to eat. I was so afraid I would teach them to overeat that I never tried to get them to eat anything they didnt want.
I always figured that no kid was going to starve to death with food sitting in front of them. I didnt keep any junk food in the house so there wasnt anything for them to eat but what I made. I let them eat when and if they were hungry and tried not to make a big deal out of anything to do with food.
I dont know if it worked or if my kids were just lucky and inherited their fathers skinny genes but Im happy to say all my kids are thin and they all have healthy eating habits. They still have a fat mom but thats ok ..as Ive gotten older Ive come to realize that its not the size of the dress but the person inside the dress that matters. My dear sweet husband has been telling me this for 35 years but I still didnt want my kids to have to grow up heavy.
We cannot force her to eat, but we can use discipline to show her she has choices. For instance, tonight it was pork chops and she refused to eat one bite. She told her dad that she would rather sleep in the kitchen than eat. She said she doesn't like the fat, so I pulled all the meat off the bone and all the fat off the meat. She finally ate some. Later it was the same thing. I told her to eat and she said she wants to sleep in the kitchen. lol She finally did finish it all without a word from me and she said she wants to sleep in her bed.
She is 8 and is the size and weight of a 5 yr old. She even fits into some of my 2 yr old's clothes. From birth she has failed to thrive. I don't believe she has that inner hunger switch. If I didn't worry about her she would never eat.
