Here's how I look at it.........I love animals......ALL animals........however, I do not accept them coming into my home (property) to do damage, just as I would expect them to come at me if I tried to invade their home/den.

I have always thought of it this way, even with spiders and bugs in the house. And I always told my kids, they come in my house, they get squashed, when I am outside and see them, I let them be. As then I would be the intruder, not them.

There are wild animals in the food chain that these critters should be going after, not my chickies or kids, or anything on my property really (although if they wanted to take out a couple of the million squirrels we have I wouldn't complain

)..........

I have not had to cross the bridge with protecting mine as of yet, I am lucky, I have an unusually large lot in a urban suburban neighborhood. But I know they are around, as I see them on the side of the road. Not too close to my house, but still, they could end up there, as last winter a deer that seemed to be somewhat lame rested in the vacant lot adjacent to my back fence. We watched as it healed itself up and then left after a couple of days. So I know that the possibility exists and we are about to get a pellet gun, or .22 so if we need it we have it. I don't WANT to kill ANYTHING! But I understand if the need arises, it arises, like it or not.
