I knew this cat was no good.... UPDATE Men + Bud + Cat=LOL

Wolftracks: You did the absolutely right thing, and I support you. I hope the neighbor and even the shelter come on here and read this thread to know you are telling the truth. These posts can't be back-dated so it's obvious what really went on.

Breathe easy now.

And reinforce the coops and brooders for the next invasion of who-knows-what.

Post what chicks you lost, age, breeding line or whatever, and perhaps people will read and help out. I had posted that the expected marans didn't come in at a feed store, and a wonderful person is just giving me 3 eggs she had extra for hatching. Many people on here are nice and extremely thoughtful.

Good luck.

OK so first I was visited by the sheriff and Animal Control was just here.

Sheriff was nice. The other one? OMG! Tried to say since people had only seen that cat at my house that I am responsible for damages to the other brooder. I ended up having to have the sheriff come back.

The sheriff had read this thread and kind of got a chuckle from it. He had responded in July when I found my husband. His wife has chickens and he just put in an order for some FBCM eggs from me and told me there have been a lot of chickens stolen lately.

The AC guy checked my pens looking for stolen birds. grrrrrrrrrrrrr Asked me how I afforded the birds I had and just kept at me. That's why I asked for the sheriff again. Anyway the ticket I had written up on me for the cat is gone now. I was supposed to go to court on it and they said the neighbor was still talking about small claims court, but the sheriff went back and is talking to him.

All over someone not taking proper care of their PET!?

So sorry that this is happening to you. I hope the sheriff can talk to your neighbor. I am sure the people who lived there before you just left the cat figuring the new people would just take care of it. sorry that the AC officer was so mean with you losing your own chicks to the cat. I hope the sheriff can talk to the AC officer and just get all this taken care of. Hope things get better for you.

What the HELLO is wrong with people???? Sounds like your angry neighbor is just looking for someone to get some money from! You are a lot nicer than I am because when the AC guy started asking me how I afforded ANYTHING I had, I would threaten my attorney if he didn't LEAVE. I repeat: WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE????

My neighbor has three smallish dogs she lets run loose. They aren't a problem for ME as they don't bother chickens and since her kids and my kids play together, the dogs tend to stay at my house nearly as much as their own. No big deal, but if another neighbor got upset over the dogs I have no doubt that they would blame me too because the dogs hang out here. Same concept but it is an idiotic one. If I (or you) do NOT own or feed the animals causing problems, HOW are we to be at fault for their "doings"?? I am so mad for you right now...

How DARE they!

I don't like that the Animal Control guy acted that way towards you without knowing for sure that wasn't your cat.

I don't think it's fair to you that they claim that was your cat just because it hung around your house, especially since you lost your chicks, too.

What I would be calling animal control right away something is not right there. So sorry that all of this has happened to you.
I hope you can find out who the cat belongs to sounds like he might belong to someone there and they got him out of the Animal shelter.

I've got two words....SUPER SOAKER!!! Those big water guns that kids love so much? Cats HATE them. Best way to re-educate a cat hands down.

You've got to be kidding! I agree with schellie69: something's not right. Someone had to have bailed out the cat or the animal control moron did something not quite right. Call a/c again, get that trap going, and get it out of there. Plus... I wouldn't mess around any more. Get that 22 or an airgun or something but you really can't afford to lose any more birds. Neither can your neighbor. Did you inform the neighbor that the cat's back? Join forces... perhaps together, you can rid the world of that cat menace!

(manaical laugh).

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

OK Comic Relief!

The cat got past them when they tried to get it in the truck and took off. I hunted down the neighbor. Nice birds btw!

I just had five men running around my back yard chasing a fat cat. One jumped the fence and took off after him another drove a truck through the alley.

My neighbor stayed a few minutes and I told him I never let anyone near my brooders, but I'd show him why I was mad. This poor guy. He lost a lot of good chicks, but he saw my birds and I showed him the breeds and colors I lost and he was very nice.

I almost brought him in to read the thread, but I don't like company, so there ya go. He's maybe going to check out the site though. He asked if he'd be criticized for raising Games and I told him there were others here who did. He said they've been raising them in his family for more generations than he knows. He said when he was a little boy his uncle took him to a cock fight and he cried and threw up. He still loved the birds and lost his family flock several years ago and has been trying to breed back to what they had. The roo his chicks were from cost him $500 and he said he has spent much more.

He liked my birds. He said a few of my Game hens were very nice. Yeppie! He wants me to hatch out some Fav eggs for his wife. LOL Too bad they're too young yet.

Anyway, the cat is on the loose. Makayla (grand daughter) has been sitting in her princess chair at the backdoor with dog food in a small crate, waiting for the cat. She suggested teaching it to not eat chickens. I suggested the cat find a noce home with NO chickens. She's good with that, but now she wants a kitten. I just can't win.

The plus side of the stupid cat? It caught a gopher in my backyard. Looks like I'll be fighting those again this year too.

But I made a friend of sorts, so if Jaime signs up, that's my neighbor.

ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!!! His friends just drove and ran down the street chasing the cat. This is getting funny! Much better than yesterday.

OH and I found where my EE has been laying her eggs too! Yep, much better now.
