Are you serious? What are the frikken odds. :bow

Depends on where you got them. Some stores are rather well known for having mis-labelled bins of chicks (it's likely caused by carelessness, not deliberate mis-labelling).

Also, people who know what they're doing can reliably pick some of the females out of a bin of straight-run chicks of those breeds, thus leaving more males for someone else.

If you hatched them from eggs, the odds are pretty strongly against having that many be all roosters.

Unless you are me.

Few years ago I hatched a lot of chicks. My hatches were giving me 80% cockerels. As a test I gave some broody hens 7 eggs. All 7 hatched. All 7 were cockerels. I gave up hatching for a while.

I know it doesn't happen often, but it sure can!

So they were straight run from TSC. That is the last time I’ll be doing that.

This. This is my luck. Lol

I hatched out 12 RIR and ended up with 9 hatched.i ended up with 5 pullets and 4 roosters. They are on the verge of laying now and crowing. I'm waiting to see which rooster is the best the biggest and got the best traits. Because I plan on breeding down the track.the other 3 will go in the freezer. Sad but that's life.

I totally get that. I'm just worried about keeping them for too long. I don't want any fighting because I don't have the room to give them a "bachelor pad" right now. :hmm

I'm looking at around 10 roos in a flock of 18 right now. I have a smaller batch of 6, and they are too young to tell but I'm sure with this luck so far I have a couple roos in there too!! AHHH!!!

Alot of the BR roos are mean as hell. Like it's weird that they are acting the way they are. Not sure why... I've handled them almost everyday since I brought them home at 3-4 days old. And even when I give them treats, they purposely bite the underside of my hand and my legs instead of the actual treat I'm holding. Like WTH?! The RIR roos seem pretty chill though. Only had one peck me out of ordinary so far and I was holding him for the photo shoot lol.
