Hes the only one of the 3 eggs I set who hatched. I wont be hatching from these ducks again obviously. Yes it does feel like at least 2 of the toes have bonesIs that your only duckling?
I'll be interested to see how he grows. Does it feel like there are bones in the tiny foot?
Trust me I won't lol. I'm pretty good at killing critters I'm attached to if the time comes. I had a beautiful rooster I named Sebastian Bawk after my childhood hero.I adored that rooster he sat on my lap and walked on a leash,he was great. And he had the most beautiful plumage, iridescent green laced with cream edges just gorgeous. Well he attacked my son so I lopped his head off and had chicken pot pie for dinner. I made art dolls out of his feathers. If the duck begins to have problems, I'll pickle him and and sell him as an oddity. Easy squeazy.Well you asked in the OP ...
So ... I gave my opinion ... don't come crying to me when it dies an early death, after you got attached to it.
What do you think is happening on the inside of its skull?
Actually I bought the parents from another farm and hatched him myself from their eggs. But yes perhaps stranger than the foot is that NONE of the possible parents have anything resembling a crest. It's my understanding the crest must be present in at least one parent for it to be passed on. That the duck can't carry but not display the gene and pass it to offspring. So that's quite interesting. I even chased the parents down and got them in a head lock today to feel around on their heads lol. Nothing abnormal or resembling a crest at allI don't promise cause I will cry! That baby is so cute and now I'm attached and i dont even know it!
Btw - to those that are confused. OP said she bought this one as an egg from a farm and hatched it. It is her only Crest duck and its obviously still a baby. She said she has four other ADULT ducks that are not Crest ducks.
Btw - I want a Crest duck now too!!! Ugh! Must get own house so I can haves more babies!!!![]()

I have to think of it in terms of cats because thats what Im more familiar with lol. 2 black cats that each had a Siamese parent can produce some Siamese kittens together, and some solid. If crested works that way it makes sense. Now if you took those black kittens with Siamese grandparents and siblings and bred them to other cats with Siamese grandparents and siblings, you should get NO Siamese kittens. The trait must be displayed in each generation to carry. I thought that is how it worked with crested?I believe that the parents don't need to have a crest. If both of them carry the gene for the crest they could produce offspring with a crest. I'll have to look more into it but I believe it's a recessive trait.
