I'm not sure what buffhead babies look like but I found a picture of a Barrow's Goldeneye Duckling ( http://www.ctwaterfowl.org/divingducks.htm ) and that is EXACTLY what my baby looks like . . .

Bufflehead ducklings look like yours but are sometimes a little darker. They're related to the goldeneyes. Where are you located? It's possible that it's a goldeneye. You may want to find out the regulations in your area in caring for them, as you may need a license to keep it.

Have him look - I am so curious. I am totally keeping the duckling, regardless of what he is . . . I've only had him a few hours and I'm hooked! I would LOVE a buddy for him. He's sequestered in an already very messy box in my bedroom, so he's probably pretty lonely - I feel so bad for him. Let me know as soon as you have a ducky candidate!!!

I think its a bufflehead instead of goldeneye mainly because it has dark eyes. Whatever it is, very, very cute!

Do me a real quick favor: go back to where that BEAUTIFUL duckling was and see if there are any more!!! Eggs, ducklings, or an adult pair that could be *reloacted* to my backyard...ANYTHING!!! She is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! And if it's a bufflehead I will be extremely jealous....I can't let hubby see these....I didn't even know ducks that looked like that existed!!!
