I know it's early but I want some eggs!

I have always had my nesting boxes open to the pullets but I know its to soon because mine use the boxes as a bathroom so be careful

I am not sure what I should do now, I hope the chickens will be happy and lay eggs in here.

Do I need to find a way to roost poles in here or is this good enough?????

hubby put a shelf up there, but I could take it down and put a poll up, they kicked all the straw off of it and they sit up there. I cant see in so dont know where they sleep

If you have a shelf up there - they're probably roosting on that since they like to sleep in the highest spot. Your nest boxes are fine for them to lay in as long as you've provided them some higher up spot to roost - like the shelf.

Wide pole seem to work the best. 2x4 with 4 side up. or a very thick 4-5 inch pole. Some of mine prefer reting on the slant of the nest box despite the 3 empty pole just waiting for a chicken to roost! Silly girls.
