I let my Bob whites go

All of you responders have made valid points, most of which I totally agree with, but is it really necessary to berate the guy so much?

Apparently, considering he's still defending his actions.

Disgusting imo. OP is the reason keeping native gamebirds is regulated by a permit given by the state in most places(and I would be shocked if OP had that either).

If there is one thing I would berate anyone for on the face of the Earth mercilessly it would be this.

Berating a person is a great way to get them to dig in their heels. OP obviously still doesn't understand what they've done wrong—continuing to attack them for their bad decisions is not conducive to education (which I thought was one of the points of BYC )

We can't hope to educate folks if we attack them.
Regardless of what we do to educate, the OP will defend his point. I have seen no berating in this thread but observations on his irresponsible behavior. If you are not aware of irresponsible behavior then you should be informed. Bobwhite quail are not endemic to every area of the United States and if they have been eliminated from a biome by predation over a period of time, it is irresponsible to self introduce into any area If you are not a licensed rehabilitator given permission from your local DNR to repopulate the species even if it is on your property.

You can not contain those birds to just “your land”. That is an irresponsible answer to an irresponsible action.

X2...there was two ways to respond.. with humility, or with pride... The OP responded with pride and stubbornness, instead of realizing, though it could have been said nicer by some) that they were right. It was irisponsible to expect captive bred birds in the wild... And to the OP: @bald Rooster why in the world would you say that they were obviously dummer than wild birds, and not afraid of people at all, with little qualities to survive in the wild, and then tell us all that we don't know they weren't wild strain???

Hello I knew my post and my actions would be very controversial .
This site is a educational site. I have learned very much here.
As I said thanks for all of your post!
But I will say bashing me is not helping anyone except maybe your own ego.
education is the answer to most problems. How do you expect to educate anyone if you are a donkey!
Spring weed Flowers for you ladies .:)

I disagree; if anyone else who's thinking of releasing their birds sees this, and sees how many people strongly disagree with it, and why, they might do something more humane than dumping their domesticated birds into the wild to be picked off by predators. Like humanely killing them for food.
Do you have any idea what predators do with their prey? Some of them will start to eat their prey alive. Feral cats are especially bad about this, and about playing with prey items when they aren't hungry. Any of those quail that are caught by a predator are going to die a violent death, which is very unlikely to be as quick as a proper dispatching done by a human, and that additional suffering is on you.
Who was this meant to benefit? It's not a benefit to the birds, which are now going to have a much harder life and a much more violent death. It's not a benefit to you, who's now broken the law and messed with the local ecosystem. It's not a benefit to the ecosystem, which did not need and will not benefit from the introduction of domesticated genes. The ecosystem needs smart quail, raised properly, with no human contact. Not this. You know who you've benefited? The feral cats who just got lots of new bird toys. And they don't need anyone benefiting them! They're an invasive species!
What you've done is the equivalent of releasing domestic ducks into a pond and saying "hey, there used to be wild ducks here, this is good. Some of them aren't dead!" to justify yourself.
This was cruel, it was illegal, it was unnecessary by any and all sensible definitions, and it is made worse by the fact that you don't seem to grasp any of that.
