That is sad. I'm sorry Emmett was aggressive. I'm sure your hens and grandchildren will appreciate his absence.
I admit that I never bothered to learn anything about how to deal with roosters, and every person I know says they don't like roosters. I have had a couple of cockerels be aggressive, especially one bantam cochin temporarily that I rehomed to a flock of five LF hens. Oh, boy, was he surprised! It didn't take long, however, before he was again trying to be the boss, even with those big girls. And I thought cochins were docile.
He bit hard from the beginning and only got worse as time went on.
I admit that I've been pretty intimidated at the thought of LF chickens, even the hens. They look so huge compared to my little bantams. Chickens are big birds.
