Well my computer was having problems and went to be fixed. Got the results back today.

First let me say that I am an amatuer photographer and I know I made a mistake by not placing my pictures on a jumpdrive, so dont criticize me. I love to take pictures - they are my memories and my life. The computer held thousands of my pictures - and was capable of holding thousands more. Problem was it had 20 viruses. Yeah... TWENTY!

I use the computer so i can get on here, upload/hold my pictures and write. Other than that (besides reasearch) I dont go to many other sites.

They told us that I will lose EVERYTHING on my computer. All my memories... all my photography.... from years of working... I mean alot of the pictures include my deceased pets... I am just so upset!

they said they could recover some stuff for $100 extra. Im hoping they can recover my pictures at least. My stories I had saved somewhere else. I am just so stinkin upset....

know how you feel, I was using Firefox and my DG downloaded Limewire for some music, must have had a viris, p/C crashed, and I lost almost everything. Most of my pix were on Picasso so I kept part of them so been for a week trying to get everyting back on but somethings i will never get back. And Yes i know I'm supposed to dfownload everything in case this happens but like most people, i thought it could never happen to me. so feel you pain marrie

I am so sorry!! My daugher also is a photographer. She came up with an idea of just getting new camera memory "thingies" and keeping all her photos on there as a back up in case the computer should go down.

I download my photos on to CDs every little bit. Plus my husband has a system of backing up our computers with an external hard drive system. So if we would get a destructive virus, we would only lose that which was new since the last back up.

Do you have a good virus protection on your machine? I hook up to the internet via "Live Update" by Norton Antivirus and download any new virus protection before going on line. And in about 10 years I have never had a virus of any kind.

What kind of dog is that in your Aviatar?? Looks kind of like an OES (Old English Sheepdog)

They should be able to recover your pics. Very few viruses can do that
kinda damage (yes, some could).

Forget about jump drives. Get an external hard drive and use Goodsync
to back up every few days.

{{{hugs}}}

We had a computer die, not a virus but saving/loading too much stuff & not enough memory left or something. It was the pictures more than anything I hated to lose. Now I'm almost compulsive about folks not downloading anything onto the computer. If it takes space, you aren't doing it!

Good luck, I hope they can salvage more than you expect!

After losing all my pics twice to crashes, I made a myspace page and loaded my pics there . Now if i have another crash , I can log on to myspace from the next computer and always be able to retrieve the pics...unless myspace crashes lol.

I've never known a photographer that didn't leave their work on cards, discs and drives. It's the nature of the creator to grab and click and worry about storage later. Sorry for your lost work.

ohhh. I'm so sorry! I lost a bunch of my pictures on my computer too, my computer had a virus on it, well I was able to transfer all of my photos to Walgreens, it took me days because the virus kept redirecting me to all these weird websites. Anyway there was 795 pictures, I went to pick them up and only 385 transferred!! I was so bummed out. I now have a jump drive that I am currently transferring my new pictures too, just in case. Hopefully they can recover all or most of you precious memories.
