.Lot's of thing's can get in some small spaces.We have raccon's bad here and fox ,coyote,skunk, possum's.I have been brooding mine in basement this time in tote's.Ive been worrying here since my OE's have started free ranging and 3 decided to change coops last night and I found them in horse stall this morning.I have 12 of hubby layers in one coop in a closed pen.My silkie's have been coming out last week too and stubborn to get back in at night.Well it's raining tonight so hopefully everyone is in and dont have to go trying to find them.Hope you can get some more chick's It's heartbreaking losing bird's

Go to TSC and get a trap. After you catch it, it's up to you if you want to release it 30 miles away or have it suddenly get lead poisoning (that's my vote!) But keep in mind that if you don't get rid of it, it will be back again and again. If it's a raccoon, it can get into pretty much anything you can! So...he's gotta go!
 
The lids I use for my brooders are old iron gates that DH and I covered with hardware cloth and zip ties. The big gate doesn't have to be moved as it is a little smaller than the brooder box, so DH made a hinged lid for the end. The second brooder is a round stock tank. DH devised a pulley system using a counter weight to lift it. Even my DD's can lift it. However, if you don't use the counter weight, it can't be moved. We accidentally found the old gates when we were walking around our farm when we moved in. I'm very sorry for your loss.

It must have been devastating. Hope you get some good ideas for lids.
