This weekend coming up (18 & 19th) is what we call Heritage Days in Galesburg. We have Civil War Re-Inactments and Rendez Vous. My BIL and SIL do the Rendez Vous. I would love to be able to get together and talk etc. I'm very lucky though that my hubby loves chickens as much as I do. Chickens are probably one of the only things that he and I have in common as far as interests go. Although I go hunting with him and have filled our freezer with what I caught or shot, he still loves it more than I do. I love to garden and he tolerates. I dream of being back in the 1800's where you had all the time in the world. Paper contracts were not needed because you gave your word and a handshake, and that's all that was needed. Simple things are the best. We take our kids camping. They learn to entertain themselves with hikes and naming trees, catching fish, swimming in the lake or just cat napping in a hammock. No electricity, no phones, no computers, no t.v's or radio. Just nature and all its sounds and wonders. I think that's why I love this site. Everyone else to some extent feel the same way. A national Chickenstock would be great. Let me know if anyone is in the area. My door is always open...although you might get stuck helping me do the chores

My dh and I used to live in Elkton MD...and have been to these reenactments. They are a lot of fun and interesting also! MD is below the Mason Dixon line which is a boundary set with stones/blocks all along the MD/PA border. Some of which can still be seen! I've family in NC also who do reenactments! We are the Foresters of Monroe, NC!
An absolutely great place to go is the Plymouth Plantation in Plymouth Mass where a replica of the Mayflower and Plymouth Rock are. We take our children there every Thanksgiving and tour the grounds.
Chickenstock 2008 sounds GREAT...we could rotate it around the country every year! We could change locals every year...meaning New England, The South, Texas (just because they were their own country), The Dust Bowl, The CA Gold Rush, etc etc! I'm already seeing the tee-shirts! ChickenStock New England!!

Who's up for a CHICKENSTOCK thread/forum topic for planning? Mods??
We could even schedule a Civil War Reenactment to get some of those DH's interested!

I knew that come on I do know a little history(very little) Mason dixon line road is about a mile down the road from grandmas house on other side of town. It goes on line, probably about 1000 mason dixon roads between MD and PA funny thing is go to inlaws and they calll us southerners, when we were in SC they called us Yankees. I actually grew up in OH, and they fought with Yankees But had plenty of relatives that think the south should have won (I miss my grandma, she taught me soem stuff that as I grew up i realized was messed up, but she was set in her ways so no changing her) Fredrick, Md was another battle sight, maybe that is his destination, about 1 1/2 away

Wouldn't it be great if we could have some sort of arrangement like with corporate events? I once worked for a company and had to go to Baton Rouge for training. The hotel stay was paid for by the company. They also had a yearly convention in New Orleans and would book a whole portion of the hotel, and when you booked your stay it was at a discounted rate. Wouldn't that be awesome? I have no idea how that works.... Imagine it though....a whole big mess of us chicken nuts taking over some hotel somewhere.......They'd never see it coming!

Instead of slamming southernchicks thread about Chickenstock, I wanted to let everyone know that I did start a thread about a CHICKENSTOCK 2008. She had a great idea so I think we should run with it. Check out the thread and see what we all can come up with.

I agree 100%. This is where my friends are too! I'm not much on traveling, very much a homebody, so I'll just visit with y'all here.
They do one of those all weekend reenactments down here, in Olustee, in February, and they have an expo in September where they have the traders, and they do cavalry demos and fire off cannons, but no battle. I would definitely not want to have to dress like those ladies do. I have no problem with skirts and dresses, but all those yards of fabric are way too much for me. I'd have a heat stroke the first day!!!
