Where in Indiana are you? How much to rent?
We plan on getting one built, but it probably won't happen until spring, and we'll do at least 2 batches of meaties before then. It would save so much time to have a plucker.

quick question for ya. Where do the feathers go after their plucked from the bird? Do you have to manually remove them after every couple of dirds, or is there a way to make them expell themselves through the bottom into a garbage can or something?

Just wondering, and thanks for the info.

Yes there is no bottom and the feathers go thru out the bottom. We use a water hose to rinse as it is running. We are in Noblesville 15 mins North of Indy. I haven't though of a price yet to rent it, Not too much, just to recoup some of the cost of building it and keep it from setting and collectingg dust.

I have heard over and over about spraying a hose into the plucker..

do you do this while the chickens are tumbling or afterwards ??

doesn't the cold water on the chickens set the feathers??

I am just finishing my plucker and plan on using it about mid November

I like the idea of renting it out..

probably a base charge refundable if there is no damage, r if the plucker "gets lost" plus a per chicken charge.. You know they will do more than they claim, but what the heck ...LOL you are not going to get rich either way..LOL

Please post when you decide how much you will be renting your plucker for. I would definitely be interested in renting it. Our next batch of meat birds will be ready to process on December 6th, so that is when I would like to rent it. I live on the near east side of Indy, so quite close to you.

Thanks,

Sarah

just an update.. I got everything up and running on my plucker.. I am waiting for the fingers to come in the mail.. I ordered 300 fingers because I am planning to build another plucker only next time I am getting fancy and making the frame out of either oak or maple or hickory.. I have lots of each..

I pick up free logs here and there and take them to a guy who will saw any amount of logs..from 1 log to truckloads..and it is inexpensive
