I might just be complaining, but... (rant) *Update*

I also was a teenager in the 80's I got married at 16 had my 1st daughter at 17 at 18 got divorced and found out I was pregnant with 2nd daughter she was born when I was 19 third kid at 22 I was going to collage and working part time. It sucked I also had to take care of the house and everything while raising my 3 kids. I meet and married my now DH at 24 he was 26 at times I was able to stay at home others we both worked to support our kids. But the kids worked also they had chores which they got no money for. Right now my children are 24, 22, 19 and 15 they all live at home my 22 is disabled and will never live on her own. My oldest moved home because she got a divorce she does have a part time job. My 19 year old does not right now but he does a lot of things for me since I do have health problems he takes care of the outside chores for me when I can't I home school the youngest. They all help out with cleaning and do their own laundry. What I am saying is that with any family there are issues. My son does a lot of yard work in the winter and summer he does any extra jobs he can find. There has to be some thing in your area that you could do. If you paint put an ad in a paper saying I will paint anything then go look at a job and give an estimate. It might just be small jobs here and there but that is money plus you can use them as references. Just keep looking and remember don't give up. Maybe your friends can pay you something for hanging out and watching the 14 year old. On the smoking I am not going to lecture you one it, I smoke so does 2 of my kids and my DH we did go to roll your own cigs bought a hand machine and roll them ourselves we pay for 4 cartons what most pay for a cheap carton just something to think about. Just get up and keep going keep looking.

Since you are a certified painter, have you sent your resume to all the other painting companies in the area? I know that some times my painter needs a few extra hands on a job. When summer hits, the college town area (MsPony will know what I mean) Isla Vista has painters and repair people from all over the country come and work. Paint crews from the south were here last summer. Sure it is a summer job and yes you might meet some interesting people and maybe even have to crash in your sleeping bag on the floor of a gross rental.

But, it would get your foot in the door and the opportunity to show your talents.

Send that resume to paint companies in the college towns around you. Remember that many (not all) contractors have little time to hang out on their computers all day and want a paper resume and not an email one.

Not sure of the rules in your area, but here you have to be licensed to bid on bigger jobs and know how to deal with lead based paints.

MsPony...... do you work at one of the local pet shops? "L" or "PH" (will have to waive Hi next time I go in)

Oh one more thing, Goth is fine in HS and college, but in the workforce you almost guaranty yourself a lower paying job. You might find something in a trendy college town clothing or music shop, but those jobs are harder to get and pay next to nothing. Hate to tell you all, tats too. It might be a personal statement, but when you own a business your staff reflects you and your vision for your business. Unless your personal style fits the business, it is likely going to cost you that job.

Have you looked up the local paint stores in your area? Maybe selling paint would help you get started. find the closest one to you and start there. Even stocking paint on a shelf is a job which is better then none. If they are not hiring go to the next one.

second if you have any piercings in your nose, lips, eyebrows or more then one pair of earrings in your ears take them out.
I admit I think some of them look nice on my friends, but in a business setting they don't. I have heard about some interviewers just throwing the job application away due to those. Also cover any tatoos.
No Goth, sorry. Even though I like your avatar they won't.
Also go to your facebook page if you have one and take down any pictures or postings you don't want seen some bosses will look you up on the internet.

Good luck.

if you dont want to edit your FB then make your settings as private as you can... thats what I did because I had family members of patients looking me up on FB... now when you search for me it comes up as if I dont have a profile.. same when you search my e-mail... i dont exist according to FB

Oh good point on the facebook!

Never post something publicly you would not would not want to print in the newspaper. Because employers can and will check that out.

Once you have a job, DO NOT complain about the boss/job/customers publicly either!

I wanted to thank everyone for their advice. Even though I was squinting at the screen sometimes, wondering if I should be offened.

Wish me luck. Yesterday I managed to make enough money to pay for gas and I talked my dad into taking me job hunting. I'm checking online again to see if I can find anything.

Again, thanks everyone!

good Luck!
