Red We live 1 1/2 miles from the gulf and you can tell by our farm name we have a beach in our front yard. Nobody is at the beach right now with the temps in the 40's at night the water here is just as cold as up there. I remember the beaches in New Jersaey when I was a kid the water was always way to cold to enjoy. And I remember the surprise when we moved to FLorida and went to the beach you could stay in all day it was so warm. Of course back then there was a beach with sand dunes and lots of beach area. That was before they killed the beaches with all the highrise condos and hotels.

It is but every place has its bad aspects. We have Sand Gnats Believe me thats something you dont want to have. They come out frist thing in the morning and bite they come right through the screens then they return around 4:00 and bite their way through again. I have seen men leave a job outside because of them. When they are out believe me we are inside.

Are they also called sand fleas?? if so, i remember them... ugh...not fun.

No they are a different animal. the gnats swarm you and you can actually see them in the air. most people are allergic and they leave big welts. luckily they are gone the next day but dfthey itch in the meantime.

But you feel the gnat bites for the next couple days.... We got them bad here too (Citrus County Area). Horrible little bugs... Have to worry about them more than mosquitoes.

Beaches, mild winters, the BEST seafood, and Mardi Gras....all reasons I will never be able to live anywhere other than the Gulf Coast. I went to Maine over the summer, and the coastline was gorgeous. I loved the rocky shorelines and huge surf. Went to Hawaii back in February and LOVED it...beautiful water, lava rock, black sand...but it's still not the beautiful white sand beaches and warm water of the Gulf Coast. You just can't beat Pensacola's beaches.
Key West is a lot of fun, and they have feral chickens....I'm up for the convention! My bf would even tag along for that one because he loves Key West.
