I am a new chick mommy and just moved my 7 week old chicks out to the coop. The low tonight is 44, and they have a heat lamp but I am still freaking out! Did I do the right thing? Coddle me please! LOL

That first night is hard!

I'm sure you'll be out there first thing in the AM to check on them...and they'll look at you like, "what are you doing here so early?!?" They'll love the coop and the room to spread out. They'll be fine, mom!

They are going to be fine! Especially with the heat lamp. I moved my out in June and still freaked out though! Somethings you just can't keep yourself from worrying about.

I feel like a meanie too, because I could not stand all the dust and feathers flying anymore! I figure there fine, but I will be checking every hour on the hour to make sure!

It has been pretty warm here during the day - the coop they are in has 7 week olds outside of the cage and the 4 week old bantys in the cage. None of them are suffering. A sure sign would have been if the 7 week olds were gathered around the cage where the heat lamp is. Nope. They are fine.

Oh boy! I am sure when my times comes, I will feel this way too.
I think I will miss hearing the "cheep cheep" from my girls inside the house each day.
I'm sure they'll love it out there - so many adventures to be had in the real world!
Enjoy!

They sell web cams at our feed store for about 100.00 where you can watch them from your computer 24/7. If you have a comp in your bed room or a sofa or something to sleep on you can wake up.. Look at the comp screen and roll over and go back to bed. Sometimes that 100 pays off if you worry about predators or them just getting cold. You can also move that cam anywhere with in so many feet, Many many feet so if you have other livestock, it would really pay off.

My other psychosis is the stupid heat lamp! I have it double secured (hook drilled into a 2x4 and wire as a backup) and still cant rest with the idea of a malfunction! Sheesh!
