Hi, all! I'm fairly new to chickens, but I LOVE them. I can't get enough of them so I'm constantly in their coop puttering around LOL. I sort of inherited the chickens, so I don't know anything about them. I want to be a "cool" crazy chicken lady, but I was in a conversation with another crazychicken lady in tractor supply Friday and she asked me what kind I had. My answer of "lots of different colored ones!" quickly ended our conversation. Please, can anyone help me learn my bird's breeds so I can be cool??
My SIL tells me she ordered Jersey Giants, but the black ones she had don't look like the descriptions I read about them.
My Susan, who I will atach a picture of, is a Buff (I think). Please let me know if I'm wrong. We also just hatched 11 babies and their colors are getting crazy!!! What do you call them when they are mixed types? They are certainly beautiful. There is one white baby with gold highlights that looks like an angel!
Anyway, thanks for reading. I'll attach some pictures. Any help would be appreciated!
Becky

ok, so here's the rooster that fathered several of the new chicks. I assume knowing what he is is important, no?

The adult is the one I think is a buff

My little angel

These are much bigger now and are pure white. That orange one is HUGE.

There's the other rooster and one that is supposed to be a jersey giant

Anyone have any thoughts?

Could you get a pic of each chicken by itself? It does look like you have a Buff Orpington. The all white ones might be white Leghorns.
The silver/blue hen looks a like an Andalusian.....maybe not though.

EDIT: said roo instead of hen! Oops!

First roo looks to be a light sussex with those white legs (hard to tell his size and proportions). The second pic looks like a blue andalusian hen. Can't tell what she is standing next to though. The second rooster is an EE. The black hen on the ground in that pic could be a giant, she could also be an australorp, can't tell from the photo. Also the pic with the buff hen could be any number of breeds. Orpingtons are probably the most common, but remember that "buff" is a color and not a breed. With the roosters that you have and a variety of hens you should get a really colorful mix of chicks.

Great, thank you. So with the crossing I could just say I have a nice assortment and not feel so dumb :)

The white birds are probably White Leghorns, the buff bird is most likely a Buff Orpington, the blue bird is a Blue Andalusian, and the darker red bird (the one in the photo with the white chicks) could be a production red. Both roosters look like Easter Eggers or another mix; the first one appears to have an oversized pea comb, which makes it not a Sussex. The black bird is probably a Black Australorp, though she could also be a Jersey Giant.

I agree.
