The food doesn'rt cost that much only about $9 a bag and there 50lb bags and we get three bags once a month or so. Besides we have room for way more... our backyard isn't even half full!

Ditto SarahBeth! Its alot to ask of parents to foot in the feed bills and times when you are sick and unable to care for your birds for a day or two, they would help you out simply because you love your birds and cared for them. So 45 birds are a good number and believe me you do not want to have that many running around LOL!

In order to get the breeds you want, sell a few or more of your 45 birds and still keep it at 45 birds at all times until you move on your own or pay your own food bill.

Kudos for you having chickens, its a great way to stay out of trouble!

Sounds like you are a lucky kid with some understanding parents. I know the work required for 30 chickens so love the 45 you have.

Yes they are I know. I am greatful for what they do. My Mom said to get a new coop ( or clean out the old one out but that is way to much work they are in a 45 or 50 year old shed.) before we get more but I need my Dad to help with that but we have been very busy lately.
