I need an answer...ASAP please!!

This what was told to me by someone who I trust knows what they're talking about....they're a chemist for a vaccine company:

Amprolium does not kill cocci, it just inhibits reproduction so that they don't reproduce faster than the duckling immune system can deal with it.

I've used Start & Grow which contains it for a long time and had no problems with my call ducklings.

Mazuri Waterfowl Starter (by Purina) is one of the best choices, but it is expensive and often has to be special ordered.

Purina and some other manufacturers also make a Flock Raiser crumble which is fine for ducks although it, like most other feeds, promotes fast growth which sometimes results in leg or wing problems.

Broiler Maker/Meat Bird Grower can also be used as can Game Bird feed.

Read the bags. The most important thing to look for is added or supplemental NIACIN which is not in chicken feed. Ducks have higher niacin requirements than chickens. It helps prevent leg problems and and a wing condition called Angel Wing.
Also, try to keep the protein level under 21%.

All that said, I have raised ducks and geese on chick starter followed by layer pellets and they were fine, but I did have a higher rate of Angel Wing, especially in certain breeds, such as Sebastopol geese.

I raised my ducks on chick starter and it was medicated...I did this when the Amish told me to feed it to them...I bought the ducks from the Amish. It was a while before I realized unmedicated was recommended. Now the ducks are 5 weeks old and are in with the 11 week old chicks. everyone free ranges now and I put out layer feed for the grown hens, chick starter for the chicks, and game bird feeder for the ducks...EVERYONE eats everyone else's feed!! No ill effects from any of them, in fact they are all healthy-happy poultry. I could still end up with some with angel wing but not easy to keep them out of the feed when they all roost together and free range together. If you can keep them separate then by all means use game bird starter as that should be easy to find.

Well...the babies are here....there are 8 out of 9 eggs hatched. I will get some pics later, and start a new post. They act like they are starving! I took some layer pellets, and used a coffee grinder and made crumbles...well, sorta, like mash. They love it! Thanks everyone for your input.
