I need answers ASAP. Tyson has a huge chicken barn across the street from me, they told me to get r

Quote: Not sure why it would have. There is no law that says I must disclose to the seller what I intend to do in the future on my private property. If the seller didn't ask and didn't put restrictions on the parcel they sold, it's their mistake, plain and simple.

Interestingly enough, I have a Tyson raiser about 1/4 of a mile from me and others at varying distances around me as well and have wondered if my flock would be at risk from them. There are numerous folks with free range chickens all around us and if I'm not mistaken, one guy with chickens almost directly across the street from the Tyson grower closest to me.

The OP should not be required to pay for the seller's mistake. If it was me in this situation, placing my flock at a 1/2 mile distance from the house is not acceptable. It completely ruins the enjoyment of a backyard flock.

Personally, I'd be asking the seller to buy the property back or back off, period. There are consequences to actions in this life. I don't usually allow myself to be put in a position to have to pay the consequences for someone else's mistakes if I can avoid it.

ETA: I am sincerely hoping we will hear how this was resolved. Again, it's up to the OP how she wants this to play out, what she's willing to live with (or without). Everyone is different, but I am already positive of what my answer would be.

I'm sorry, what country are you a sitting judge, and your post is missing words. whats your opinion? Op should or shouldn't heed Tyson?

Riki
I did leave out a key word-sometimes my hands & my brain lose contact briefly. Happens even more often with my brain & my mouth. I corrected the post to indicate I don't believe the OP needs to be concerned with what Tyson wants them to do.

Not quite sure about your "what country" question. Since my screen name includes NY [abreviation for New York] see if you can work it out.

I gave up reading posts because I just got angry. Tyson is big in our area too and the stench is horrific. I understand the big corporate business and especially the money to be made from it. Every Tyson farm around here that gets started, has a big 'ole house built soon after the barns go up. I do not know what is costs to run them but I believe they earn about $5000 a month per barn. Just a warning, I am about to make someone out there angry so please don't read on.....

Tyson is one of the major companies that "closed in protest" when the illegal aliens decided the way to show their power was to not go to work for a day. Basically, it showed that Tyson had predominately hired illegal aliens because they didn't have enough people to show up to work. Not an admirable property for an "American" company. As for "bio-security", TB is on the rise because of the major influx of people from Mexico. It had, for all intents and purposes, been wiped out in the US until recently. How is it secure to hire people to work with your birds who could be carrying many diseases that are usually vaccinated against in this country?

Lastly, and not the least.... Do you pay your mortgage? Is your name as owner on the deed? Welcome to America where you can do **** well what you please with your property as long as it isn't illegal. Trust me, I live in the country and odor is not grounds for being forced to remove your animals. As a matter of fact, neither is "bio-security" because when an animal gets lose, we don't call HASMAT, we get in our trucks and on our four-wheelers and we all go round up the poor things and help get them back to their homes. Tyson is a big company that thinks it can push around those that don't have the funds to fight them in court. It is time that we as a people show them that the rules are already in place and court is not needed. Why pay to defend your property and way of life in court when it says in our constitution that you have the right to defend yourself. Keep your chickens if you want and put a large flagpole out with the American flag and a Don't Tread on Me flag to make sure that Tyson knows where you stand. As for your previous owners, as nice as they may be, they are using your kind feelings towards them to try to force you to give in to their will. Not so ethical if you ask me and far from kind.

OK, I am off my soapbox now.

I wasn't aware that there was a vaccine against TB.

When was TB "wiped out in the US"?

I agree with you that we should support small businesses, but all businesses start somewhere.

There is a human vaccine against human TB, but it is not widely used in the US because the risk of TB is so low in the US and it really doesn't work well/for long.

Human TB is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is contageous from human to human. I am not aware of it being transmitted to other animals from humans. The avian form of tuberculosis is from Mycobacterium avium (with many subspecies) I seem to recall that it is more of a disease of tropical birds rather than chickens. Although it can be transmitted to humans, it is not common. I believe that TB is on the rise because of a higher risk human population. Immunosuppressed humans are more susceptible to this disease, examples being HIV and those receiveing chemotherapies for treatment of cancers and auto-immune diseases. THere may be a compounding factor with extensive travel to under-developed countries and immigration.

The OP hasn't posted for a while and was a new member so I am worried they were scared off by the deep feelings they seem to have stirred up regarding property rights. I hope they come back an let us know what is going on with the situation!

We can get checked for TB when ever we want, and they do reccommend it, Since we deal with all sorts of people, I wish the OP would post back, I hate when people start a thread like this and then don't give a outcome.

I have wondered if the OP was told to no longer discuss the issue with anyone - possibly by a lawyer, or by Tyson. I hope the situation worked out well for the OP. Clearly, the way Tyson farms are operated is a controversial topic.
