I need feedback on Purina Layena Sunfresh layer feed!

pips&peeps :

Well, I just talked to a nice lady at Purina, and unfortunately the feed is only available in the Northwest.

It is 20% too, not 21%, I made an error.

But if you live in WA, OR, ID or Western MT, I recommend it.

Thanks for checking, that's great to be able to get layer with a higher protein!

I get Purina products at the tac and feed store .. it is cheaper than the local mill by a few bucks . I pay 13.00 per 50# bag.. and they have a punch card so after 7 bags , I get 1 free . That makes it even better .

The chicks like it ... I use the pellets , sand the waste is way less as well . I will have to look for the new 21% layena ...very intersting .

I'm feeling very fortunate as I pay only $11.00 per 50# bag of Layena.

I asked about ordering the Layena with the 20% protein and he said yes it can be done. The only drawback is that he may have to order a minimum of 40 bags. He's calling them and will let me know. So it appears we can get the higher protein % here in the Upper Great Lakes region too.

I started the switch today. I am very pleased with the size of the crumbles, they are much bigger and less dust than their starter/grower.

I have been feeding layena ever since I got started in keeping chickens. I really like it. I think I pay like $13 for 50#. For $21 I can get organic feed. But at this time, being that the flock all has access to the pasture and layena is a nice quality feed for a good price that is what I am sticking with. You might check at your local produce store if they allow customers to pick up the trimmings from the produce that they are not using. Our local place allows farmers/customers to come early in the a.m. and pick up what they want of left over trimmings etc. It is a good source of free greens for us and helps with the feed bill.
