I NEED HELP ASAP W/ BABY DUCKS!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! final update pg 6

Everyone's advice here is pretty good ... I can't think of much to add except that you might want to try to make up a waterer that they can get their heads but NOT their bodies inside. They do need to be able to dip their beaks to clear their nostrils, and they HAVE to have water when they eat or they can choke. But ... if you have a whole brood of them and they are able to get in their water, ... well ... let's just say it will increase your housecleaning duties.

Besides, if they are so young, they don't know to get out of the water before they are chilled.

I did a couple of things, but they pretty much all involved a container of water with a small hole for the head to go in. I didn't try gallon milk jugs, but someone on here does and posted a pic, and that looks better than anything I came up with.

There are lots of good threads on here about just about any question you could ask, so if you need an answer quickly, you can search the archives while you wait for someone to answer.

Good luck with them, however it works out.

The gallon jug with the semicircle in it for their heads works pretty well. We put it inside another pan, and now the only reason to change out the shavings is because they poop... a LOT! LOL!

ok, we went and got some not medicated feed and im going to try to figure out how to search the archives for that waterer!!! they are wet and keep running in the water. i have a mason jar waterer in w/ them and its not very pretty lol! im not sure they are eating, should i be worried? well here are some bad pictures because i cannt take the top off or they jump off and run away!! oh and to answer a few ???? noway i could keep my cat in we have three and they go in and out and if you dont let them out, the cry and tear stuff up!!! we have not seen the mom at all,and we came into the house and watched out the window, hoping she would come back, nothing!! i feel very sad for her

You should use some pine shavings and maybe a lamp. That will keep them warm and dry. Also make sure they are draft free considering how wet they are. They seem to love the stuffed animal. Good Luck!

i was afraid to do the shaving because of them not seeming to eat. i was thinking about chicks, paper for a few days or weeks? and then shavings. they are draft free and have a light and i found the post with the milk jug waterer. im getting the kids to bed and then trying to make them more comfy. do you guys think they will eat? they have barely stoped peeping and im afraid as they have been with thier mom they wont figure out the eating store food lol. i put some torn up lettuce onto the mash thinking it would get them pecking???

put some paper towels over those papers...if they're on a slick surface they'll get spraddle-legged..each leg will grow out sideways and you'll have to put a rubber band on them

and if you find that waterer thread PLEASE POST IT!!!

Moma duck won't come back unless she hears a baby calling for her, She'll stop looking for them and think they're all dead if she doesn't hear them.

Well so far I have two ducks. They are about 4 or 5 months old now. When they were about a week old (I got them from the feedstore), I fed them the same medicated Chick Starter that my baby chicks were eating. They did fine and they are growing like weeds. The reason I said "so far" is because I'm waiting on Cayuga eggs from Gracie.
