Guitartists...you are right about that!!! Of all the creatures we get at the rehab centre, bunnies and wood ducks are the most difficult to raise.

UPDATE
well we lost all but one of the babies im am sick to my stomach over it. without bothering them to much, i tried everything you all sugested.when i first moved them to the bigger box, i had put water in a shallow lid w/ grass and crumbles sprinkled in,and a mealworm. one took right to eating and i was hoping the rest would follow. so we took the kids out and when we came back in a few hours i checked and they where all doing horrible. by 9pm we where down to one. he made it threw the night and seems to be eating,i have given him back his teddy bear for some comfort. my dh feels sooo terrible that he spooked the mom, and our cats found the babies. im hoping i can get ahold of someone today who can tell me the majic trick to keeping this guy alive. i was wondering, if i should maybe go get a day old duck, to keep him company think that would help

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of the babies. It sounds like the trauma of Mom flying away and everything else was too much for them. You did the best you could and if you hadn't moved them inside it sounds like the cat would have gotten them. Hopefully you'll get a response today from someone on how to save the other little baby. Best of luck.

:aww

UPDATE
well i heard back from the gamewarden or dnr idk know what the title was. he was pretty unconcerned and had no help(what a shocker!!)he said even though is wasnt really allowed for me to go ahead and keep him and see how he does the boys and i just went out to the yard and dug up some worms and picked some fresh grass and dandelions. he has ate 3 mealworms so far today. if i just slid the lid ever so slowly and put in the food he doesnt get startled. i have been peeking in and he is moving and eating and snuggling w/ his "mommy" so far so good for this little guy!!!

Just a quick question/thought that hopefully someone else can help with:

Since he's not outside foraging but he's eating mealworms and greens, does he need grit? Just wondering. Hopefully this little guy will make it!

i would get another duckling . If he is eating and drinking he should do fine . Like 4-5 years ago i was at a zoo and the owner gave me a baby wood duck . Back then i was new to poultry and waterfowl and didnt know wood ducks needed special care so i was always holding him etc well anywasy i raised him with chicks and a blue sweedish duckling and he did fine for a year until the fox broke in his coop and got him .

Good luck with him . My step dad found a wood duck duckling in the middle of a road about a month ago but died less than 20 minutes later from stress . But if yours is eating , etc i think he will be fine but i would deff try and get him a friend

I am sorry they died. I kind of thought it might happen. Wood ducks, as I said before are very hard to keep alive by inexperienced hands and even are difficult for experienced rehabbers to handle. They can be frightened and stressed to the point of death.

I hope he makes it!!

I would try another container with a hole just big enough for him to get his head in... maybe the size of a half dollar. Then just keep making it bigger as he grows.

Yep... they're wiley little tykes!

ive been keeping my fingers crossed for the little guy!! ive never had ducks and i was thinking he might be a midget or something!!!! thats why i ask if he needs a friend, what kind?? i didnt want to get a giant in there w/him!!!
