Hi I'm new here and new to owning a chicken and a rooster. I've had them for a couple months now.My large dog attacked my chicken and rooster. Luckily the chicken only lost feathers under her stomach area. But my rooster lost all his feathers pretty much. I dont see any blood but idk how to help its feathers grow back. He is very weak. His eyes are shut and he will barely move. Plz help, i don't want him to pass.

Alright sounds like you have some problems there and first you need to secure your Rooster in a comfortable place that is at least 90 F and under 101 maybe a little air movement but not directly on him ,,,, you are going to have to touch him all over looking for broken bones and you wont be able to check for internal injuries .... make sure he has plenty of clean water and some feed available ,,,,, check to make sure he hasn't any head injuries or anything crushed ........

If you can get him to eat a hard boiled egg this is a great sign of some kind of health and lot's of vitamins and minerals ... 2 a day for a couple of weeks if he will eat them this will really aid in feather growth .....

If you have any pictures please post so we can see the extent of damage...

If he really only lost feathers, he should be OK. They might be somewhat in shock for a day or two and not want to eat or drink much, but may pick up fine after that. The concern is there could be internal injuries as well. Keep them quiet if you can, and feeling safe, and hope for the best. Good luck!

My dog licked a pullet until she was soaking wet on a cold morning. There were no bite marks. But she acted so sick we were afraid of internal injuries. However, she seemed to be suffering from stress, and was back to herself after a couple of weeks.

I have him covered in a blanket currently. Anything else i can do. All he is moving right now is his head. It's just like barely moving

This has happened to many of us if a chicken goes over a fence or the dog gets loose. Since his neck and back area are pretty skinned up, he may have some internal injuries. Watch for any neurological symptoms such as twisting of the neck oddly, or stumbling or walking backwards. He can also be in shock at first. Of 3 that I had injured, the one with no feather loss or obvious injuries was the one who died. If he makes it through the first day, and can stand up or sit up to eat, he may be alright. He will need to be separated for awhile as his skin heals. The feathers will probably grow back in a month or so, but the new pin feathers may be targeted by the others. His skin could use some plain neosporin or bacitracin ointment on it daily. When his skin is healing, you will want to use an anti-pick lotion or BluKote a staining antiseptic that may help prevent pecking. Good luck to your little guy.

Eggcessive gave you some great advice above that you should follow ....

Keep him wrapped up in the towel it is really going to make a difference down the road and a nice quiet place ....

Is he or will he eat yet and if not please let us know when he starts as this is going to be a big break through and the same goes for drinking some water ....

I got this at a medical outlet store and yes a longer tube is even better just make sure it is secure before you start putting liquid into his crop with it ....

Not always something you want to do but if you need to they are great to have in the chicken medical kit ....

Keep us updated .....
