I Need Help!!!!! Rescued Chicks In Bad Shape.... UPDATE!!

Glad your making progress!

I do want to ask if you complained to someone that might try and fix the problem being you didn't buy all the chicks?

I'm not going to go into the ups and downs on buying distressed animals as I'm bad about doing the same thing. But it needs to be brought to the attention of the management that there is a problem.

Then depending on the answers you get from them would determine just what steps you take next.

There is a major chain store that I won't mention that I know the manager cringes every time he sees me walk in as I walk straight back to the pet section and see what the fish look like

.

It took about a week but the fish are always healthier it seems and no more floaters left in the tank for any long periods. Went in and complained and went back 3 hours later and nothing had been done. That has only happened once lol now if I complain problems are normally dealt with while I'm watching if there are any.

Sorry--I know the delimia--I feel the same way...we do not have fish at r store but chicks and ducks...But I still do not like any of GODS creatures to suffer.. not sure what I should do to help...Sorry..but know I am still an advocate....

UPDATE!!! Everyone is doing well this morning!!! EE still needs stimulation to eat chick food and/or egg yolk ....small mealworm works every time..... i just put one in a shallow dish with the food and she gobbles it up and eats whatever is in the dish. (though still very small quantities) Still haven't seen her eat without the "motivation" and her crop is always empty, but if she'll eat this way, that's what we'll do!

I'm sure that all the bantams are Silkies.....two are striped/patterned, so I have NO idea what color they might be.

I have spent HOURS just standing there watching them, making sure everyone is pooping!!! LOL Funny the things we get excited about!!!

Flawedatdesign......I actually spoke to the OWNER, who didn't seem concerned ...... he said his daughter takes care of all the chicks ..... she's on vacation .....so I told him SOMEONE needs to take better care of those chicks or they will all be dead by the time she gets back!! (don't know if she does a better job or not) I am in the prcess of finding out who/what agency takes care of these matters (being "farm animals" in a non-farm town)..... plan on doing something!!!! And, yes, I know the ups and downs....lol..... but my heart overrides my head!!! I cried all the way home, wishing I could have gotten them all!!!!! Still trying to convince my husband this morning that we need to go get more! But, I know it will just prompt them to order more to sell.

good for you, I read this whole thread...glad the chicks are doing so well. I picked up a few from a "local hatchery" and i use the term loosely,
one little bantam just hatched, had to rescue her...she didn't survive a week...did everything I could too, although it appears you did so much more than I did!
congrats and please post pics when you can!! I have rescued greyhounds and chicks...not to mention a few cats here and there...yeah for all of us and here is to hoping there are many more who do the same!

You guys wouldn't BELIEVE the difference in these chicks!!!!!! I honestly did NOT expect two of them to make it!! They are running around now like there was never a problem!! It makes me so HAPPY!!!! They love the boiled egg yolks ....... gonna try scrambled today ....... I would still like to see them eat more (volume), but I have to remember that 3 of them are Silkies, so I'm sure they don't eat as much as a standard size chick. I know that I could wake up tomorrow and be telling a completely different story, but for now, all is GOOD!

Good for you! Great job and great heart to rescue these babies! I do think you should go rescue the others at the store (before it's too late for them). You can always sell them to good homes after they are well. (Or keep them!) True, it won't stop the store from replacing them with more chicks, but it is late in the season, and the store probably won't get more chicks until next year....so if you go get the others, you'd have saved those who really need it.

Thanks guys for all the encouragement!!! I'm still trying to convince my DH that I REALLY need to get the other chicks and bring them home! Though I'm still really torn about what to do..... if I don't get them, they will continue to suffer ...... if I do, they may just order more chicks to replenish their stock ......**BIG SIGH**....... it's a dilemma for sure! I keep looking at these babies that are doing so well, and thinking "All those other babies could be happy and safe like this too!"
