I need help with deciding something

I am planning to raise chickens in my backyard, and I was wondering if it is safe to put one silkie bantam together with a couple of larger breeds? Thank you!

I've kept TSC Silkies with my Standard sized flock, and they did well. Because Silkies are so different, I wouldn't recommend it, unless they grew up together.

I’d have at least two silkies. Two silkies count as one big chicken after all, right? Chicken maths. I have cochin bantams with big ones and they’re just fine. I don’t know if silkies are more or less the same, so I could be wrong.

It depends a bit on your breeds & whether your chickens have been raised together. I run bantams & standards together, including frizzles, without problems but my flock has always included large & small & weird looking birds. I also steer away from larger breeds with a predisposition for aggressiveness towards other breeds or dominance issues. I think this arrangement works best with more passive & easy going breeds. It can be done but optimally should be carefully planned.

I think if they've been raised together you might be ok. Otherwise, proceed with caution.

It might work, and it might not. If you are first time chicken person, I think I would go either full size birds, or just bantam birds until you get some experience.
