I’ve have chickens for several years. Call it a little personal hobby. I love the way they look, their eggs, and watching them interact with each other.
The past year of my life has been very difficult. I’ve moved 3 times, including a new state and have had to start completely over. I now live in a very wild area and am concerned about wildlife getting to any potential chickens I may get.
That being said, I’m starting from scratch. I’ve had many breeds of chickens over the years but this time I am going to start small. I’m going to go with ONE breed and keep it that way.
What breed would you suggest? I’m looking for a colorful, heritage, rare breed that lays a good amount of eggs. Preferably friendly also. I would welcome any suggestions! Thank you!

I would get either : heritage barred rocks (Meter hatchery has some beautiful ones), Orpingtons, you could get a couole different colors Lavender, Jubilee, Buff, etc. or Wyandottes

I see you live in Ohio, I would get a breed with a small comb to prevent frostbite. What breeds do you like the look of?

Actually, I need to update my profile. I live in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky now. Frostbite isn’t quite as prevalent but still could be an issue. I don’t care for breeds that look like game birds. Have owned Barred Rocks, and Orpingtons. Great Chickens. I’ve also owned Phoenix, Jersey Giants, a couple of Reds and a couple Easter Eggers.

Thank you. I have owned both of those breeds and they are wonderful. I guess I was looking something special due to keeping my flock smaller.
