Redhen,
It's not that hard to do dialysis on a cat at home. If they cooperate. I'll come show you.

Thanks Impie..

humans can live with only one kidney, thats why if you need a kidney transplant you can use a live donor. I'm assuming its the same with cats, so hopefully even if it is a kidney she would be fine without it.

The vet (or whoever did surgery! eeek!) said that i was connected by fat right? Isn't the fat that holds the kidney in place the same fat that we make suet out of???
I'm just not liking the way that this is going!!!
BUT it could explain the spraying issues somehow???

Do tell us whatever the REAL vet says!!!!!!!!!!

I'd say at $60 spay plus $170 biopsy you didn't get a bargin!
My cat's spay was $90 from a vet that I actually TRUST.

I was thinking of going for the humane society's low cost spay/neuter deal for my dog, but I kept hearing online horror stories about the low cost clinics, so we didn't do it.

I seriously doubt that's a kidney.

I think most cancerous tumors are solid and if it was cancerous the original site of the cancer would most likely be uterus or ovary and I'd think the vet would have seen something unusual about those organs. Perhaps it was the missing ovary in which case by it's appearance it's better that it is removed anyway. I'm not a vet but just my thoughts.....

I'd send it to see what the biopsy shows. I know it stinks to cough up the $170 but I think it would be worth it. Otherwise it would be a wait and see thing and then anytime you'd see something unusual about her you'd be wondering....

Approx 5 cm round brown mass in cranial abdomen-
attached to omenstum (?) by small twisted stalk of fat
(2 carclage (sp?) ligatures placed to remove)
Interior mass filled with thick brown liquid
Rec biopsy
R ovary + uterine horn not present. small amt fat adheseid (sp?) to site where R ovary should have been present.

so thats all she wrote...
Sorry i couldnt read her writing better...

The omentum is a fatty membrane that covers the internal organs. A ligature is simply a thread or suture used to tie off the two ends of the stalk (or whatever is being removed) on either side of the cut to prevent excessive bleeding.

You know, I doubt they took out the kidney, they have done a lot of these procedures, they arent likely to just take out a kidney and then give it to you to get it biopsied. I bet everything will be fine
