I'd be FURIOUS if our dog (my fiance was the one who wanted him, he eats everything in site and drives me NUTS cause its usually something of mine) ate any of our other pets/livestock. He's a sweet dog but that doesn't matter... then again Kevin would also be furious too. Still can't believe your DH said that it was just a chicken!! Clearly its not "just a chicken" to you!!

Edit to add: Just read that the dog is gone... glad to hear it. For the same reason most people wouldn't keep a mean rooster, there's no room on a homestead for a mean dog!! Get one worth its salt, that's a good protector of your herd!

i am so sorry. i have lost chicks to my dog a few weeks ago and just today lost more chicks to the same dog!! i am heartbroken and i know you are too. ~hugs

I'm so happy the dog is gone but, I have a sinking feeling that the dog may "reappear" when he thinks you have cooled off OR worse, he'll get a replacement dog and not train that one either. So sorry for your and your daughter. The men I've known were all like that. There's his "stuff" and your's is "crap." That's what I always got whether it was animal(Crap) or personal items (more crap) - meanwhile his "stuff" is pure treasure and heaven help anyone that even touches or moves his stuff.

I hate when people say those dreaded words "it's just a chicken"...it goes all through me!! Ignoramuses...it's not just a chicken to me...it's a pet. Have a little compassion!! Anyway, glad the dog is gone and I sure hope it stays gone.

Thank you everyone. It is nice nifty put togeather this chicken website so we can all have the support we need. I wanted to let everyone know that dh apparently has a heart, he just doesnt know how rto show it. To make up for his callusesness, he told me hes sorry, he was suprised i cared so much for One chicken. (i do have alot) anywAys. He said all this yesterday and told me he had found a local breeder of silkies and had already contacted the guy and wanted to know if i wanted to go look! I was very suprised! I havent decided yet. Im afraid i ll go and start crying. Which i will feel very silly about. But yeah. I didnt want everyone thinking dh was a total jerk. Even tho he did axt like one. I am not ready to replace cotton, but otoh i have the chance to get some silkies which dh didnt want more banties before , Sooooo...... Maybe i will just stay away from a white one for now?
