I need suggestions on a new rooster!!

Well what I did last year was go in and tell them I wanted 6 Buff Orpington girls. They did a big order of all different breeds and ordered probably 20 + of the Girl Orpingtons. So when I went in , I picked my 7 and that was that..they sold all the others I guess...
I am going to pick a breed and only want 1 rooster....So If I go in and tell them I want to order one "whatever" rooster.....will that rooster come separated from the rest of them so they know which is the rooster???

My question is...how will they know when the order comes in which one is my rooster if they didn't order all roosters of that breed????

Your best hope is that You can convince whoever is doing the ordering will order ONE (black australop) rooster, with a group of white leghorns. That way he will stand out from the crowd, most will not ship him seperate, has to be part of a group for warmth. The Hatcheries charge extra for marking/tagging a specific chick. If they will do it.

It says on Privett's web site that chicks will not be marked according to type/sex unless specified. So I would take that to mean that if your feed store requests it, they will mark the chicks according to breed & sex.

So maybe there is a way you could just get one roo!

Hey my pet chicken and meyer hatchery have orders as little as 3 chicks although it is more expensive. Favvorels can be also be sexed as soon as they start to feather out and they are my fevoriet chickens that I own they are realy nice.

Good luck

My Lakenvelder was probably my best tempered rooster ever. He commanded respect from the other roosters(I had about 5 different roosters at the time all free-ranging together and never had more then a scuffle!!) and no one messed with his girls. He was also very good with my family and myself never raising a hackle feather once at any of us. He would catch bugs for his girls and always let them eat first. Not so much a cuddle bug, but he could be handled without any issues. I regrettably sold him to focus on only a few breeds.

I've had terrible luck with EE roosters, I have one now who is very well behaved and will hopefully stay that way.

I loved my Phoenix, (can't believe he's gone

) He did attack DD once, but he was great with the ladies and young birds.

I also had a really nice AustralorpX(?) Roo that I kept with my barred rocks 5 years ago or so. Gorgeous bird, but not good with people. He died defending his girls.

Last spring, come to think of it, I do remember seeing a little chick with blue on the back of his head and they said that it was a Delaware rooster.....I see now.....Got it...

I will have to pick a breed and tell them I want a boy and just see what happens I guess... I will have to go on the website again and check it out. I was on there yesterday looking at the different breeds they have.....a whole lot I am liking ....of course.....Maybe I should just get a bigger Chicken house??
