Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. ( I love the fact that when I am too weak to pray, the spirit takes over and provides even that)

I know how long you and your friend have been suffering through this, and while nothing I say will be comforting, please take solace in knowing that his pain and suffering will soon be over. Just try and remember that while you're being strong for your friend, you need to let go, and I think you have just the man to be there for you to do so.
