I need to know what breed I have!

Good for you at not letting him mount a hen in your presence. I don't allow that either. I also don't let my roo eat when I'm around. He's low man in my pecking order.

And because of it, he's very respectful of me.

If you want to sell some, check Craigslist in your area to see what others are selling them for. Around her, mature laying hens go for around $15.

I also prefer colored eggs also, however the leghorns lay very well and you'll be sure to get eggs from them regularly. I sell mine to friends for $3 a dozen and it helps pay for feed.

I think some of mine are about ready to lay...at least they appear to be. I had a little bantam Plymouth Barred Rock hen ***RIP little Pepper!!!! Miss you every day!!!*** (that unfortunately a racoon killed this spring

) for 2 years, BEST chicken ever, the one who made me fall in LOVE with chickens, and she started laying at about this age. So I'm excited to begin to sell some eggs..thanks for the tip on how much to sell...THAT was my next question!

...I'm new to all this selling stuff!
I read on here when I first got my chickens and found out I had roosters NOT to let them mount a hen, fight another roo, attack any birds for that matter, eat first, etc in my presence. So I dont. Lately My LIGHT BROWN LEGHORN (wow I'm gonna have to get used to calling them that!) has forgotten his manners! He is very respectful so far...until the last couple days, now not knowing anything about the breeds roosters temperament and his change lately I'm concerned if I should keep him or not. I hope they are good Roo's! He is sooo handsome! I really want to keep him! I'm just soooooo disappointed they are the colored egg layers I thought and told they were when I bought them! again - STUPID TSC! LOL

Update...sold my LEGHORN Cockerel.....he first got beat up by the girls big time when he tried to get all "rooish", then when he finally showed em he was boss, he took over the whole coop, knocked my little bantam cockerel to the bottom of the totem pole and terrorized him and all the bantams and most all the hens! He was respectful of me, but no one else. He had everyone all nervous and unsettled all the time. He has been gone for 3 weeks...the chicken yard is calm now, no ruffled feathers and my bantam cockerel is no longer hiding and has taken back his spot as top bird....he was the better boy of the two..finding bugs for the girls, watching for danger etc. All is now well on the home front!

Welsummers have red earlobes, brown leghorns have white. The OP's have white ones.

ETA Both breeds have almost identical feathering in the hens so that's where it's easy to get them confused. Welsummers tend to be more fluffy while leghorns are much slimmer. The OP's hens are fluffier than my brown leghorn but the white earlobes speak for themselves.

Thank you I've learned something today. I saw the white earlobes in the pics but thought there was no way they could look that much alike. Shows how green I really am.

I know its crazy how much they look alike!!!!!!!!! I never knew either!!!!!!!!! But boy do those white earlobes stand out huh??!! Now that I know what I have there is no mistaking! LOL And she acts just like one too! Boy is she hard to get your hands on her! I run around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to catch her when I have to!
