I ordered from Ideal over 3 weeks ago 14 chicks, I did NOT get mine overnight, they were in shipping for 2 days!!! When i finally got them there were 2 DOA and 2 more passed within a 2 week period. My PO is great, they call me around 6 am when the chicks arrive and let me pick them up before the PO opens. I sincerily hope everyones chicks arrive safe and sound

to happy healthy chicks. From now on im hatching at home

Jeez, that's terrible. Sorry you had such bad luck. I got my chicks from Ideal 2 weeks ago. They were shipped from TX to MD overnight. All were fine and are still very healthy.

Well, now 9 total are dead. 3 died overnight

I am taking the best care of them but 3 of the little runt ones were just too far gone and I couldn't keep them alive

I am really sick about this.

I am so sorry you are having such a hard time, farmgirlie. Lost my second one last night too. Those runties just can't hold on...it's really hard. I am working at not being a nervous wreck over the rest of mine. My EE rare chick is doing well, but if I lose "him" I will be devastated. Not to sound cold, I love all of mine, but they are for laying hens, and I can't allow myself to get too attached to them. I am allowing myself to get attached to my "ugly chickling" EE though... *sigh*

I hope things get better for you FG, and that those will be the last of your losses. Hang in there.

All of my chicks have come from Ideal. I have never had any arrive dead but I did loose one a few hours after I got them home. I tried to get it to drink, but it just wouldn't and died anyway. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

risurocket & farmgirlie, sorry to hear about your chicks. It's so sad to see the little ones die so young.
As I posted before: I ordered 26 silkie chicks from Ideal, they were hatched 11/12 and arrived 11/13. They were all alive, cold, but alive. All of mine are doing well so far. I was concerned about some diarrhea at first, but then found out that it was normal. Some of mine are larger than others now, but all looked like freshly hatched chicks when they arrived.
I intend to order a few EE chicks from our local feed store in the spring. (I have nothing against Ideal, I just want a very small amount) After that I think home hatching would be less stressful for the chicks as well as me. I was nervous as heck waiting for them in the mail too and now reading about your experiences... I hate to think what it might be like next time.
Good luck with the rest of your chicks. I hope things get better for both of you.

I forget where our feed store said they get their chicks from... Doesn't really matter to me at this point, I just don't want to end up having 20 roosters in with my order of 6-8 EE pullets.

Ideal told me today that they were shipping chicks this morning, and mine should be here on Wednesday. I hope they're wrong and they get here tomorrow, I'm so excited...

Good luck! I really hope you have much much better luck with them than I had with McMurray. Let us know when you get them and how they are.
