I ordered chicks for the first time...

I am getting chicks from ideal that should be shipping this morning also. I am excited

for all our chicks to get here safe and sound and tomorrow! What breeds did you all order?

ETA:
I just called the post office to let them know, and they said that they would call after 8 in the morning. I hope they remember to keep them warm until then. I also hope my morning sickness doesn't ruin my chick excitement since I'm going to be dragging myself and a toddler to the post office that early.

I am getting some austrolops, barred rocks, black and red sex links, rhode island red, and some easter eggers.
I called the PO today and they took down my husband's number too just in case. I think we are both going to go to sleep with phones in hand

I hope your morning sickness isn't too bad tomorrow. Is your toddler excited? My daughters are excited, but my 4 yr old won't take her shoes off just in case the post office calls. She is ready.

It is very nice to have buddies to wait with.

I got some EE's too! The list is in my signature.

My 2 year old is very, very excited. She's been telling everyone about her baby chicks that are coming. I hope my post office calls and doesn't screw it up. Last summer I ordered live crickets (for my bearded dragon) and they not only didn't call, they sent them out on the mail truck and the mail man left them on my porch in the blazing sun! That makes me nervous, I will be so upset if they do that to my chicks.

Do you think yours will get there tomorrow? Washington is a lot farther away than Kentucky. They told me two days, I wonder if that's just so that they don't get a worried call from me harassing them tomorrow if they don't show up...

It's so thrilling to think that they are out in a box on their way here RIGHT NOW. Hehe.

There is a lot of great advice here, but I'll add my 2 cents. I've always had the shipper put my cell phone number on the order and my local post office goes out of their way to call me. Ideal probably did that. I've gotten several orders from both Ideal and private sellers and the post office has always called immediately upon receiving the chicks. They even called once so I could pick them up before they opened for regular hours. Ideal is very good to work with, but private sellers seem to really go the extra mile to protect the chicks. One in particular, Boggy Bottom Bantams in Georgia, even secured one of those medical type warming bags in the box with an order of Serama chicks I bought back in the Spring. That was certainly going above and beyond, and the chicks were in fantastic shape when they arrived. I'm surprised more companies don't do that, but then there's the expense. Anyway, good luck on your new chicks! Ordering them and waiting on them to arrive is half the fun. Nearly as much fun as waiting for new hatches to pop out from under Mama Hen.

I just went out in the garage to get my brooder lamp so I could bring it in and turn it on to make sure everything is warm and ready, and I found it outside...in the rain! It's been raining all day. It must have gotten set outside when I was cleaning out the garage a few days ago. Do you think it's still safe to use?? I'm going to let it dry out over night...it just says on the tag DO NOT SUBMERGE, it doesn't say do not get soaking wet.

If I plug it in tomorrow what's the worst that could happen?
