Thanks. Those were my first thoughts looking at all those little chicks and the poopies they left on the paper towels and on the blankets when they had their photos taken. They're so funny!

I took the pictures after the little ones had only been in their pen for a little more than an hour! Yep, they sure do eat and poop and sleep (sleep when another chick is not stepping on them).

This morning more of them are taking naps than yesterday. Everyone seems to still be doing good.

Since I now understand that they look sort of ... err... dead when knapping, the only other time I got 'scared' was a couple of times the chicks (who I guess are still discovering what is food and what isn't) thought that maybe the eyes on another chick were food. One time I saw it peck 4 times while the poor half a sleep chick tried to get away. I snatched up the pecker and talked with him and he went scurrying away quickly.

I hope to move them to their new brooder (about 4 times as big) within the next day. They just look too crowded now.

I'm glad I read this, I'm going to be a first time chick owner this Spring, and I would probably be doing the same thing! But now I know better, thanks for the headsup.

Beautiful little things BTW. Good luck with them all, very cute pics.

During the first three days I had a chick that decided the broody hen's lower eyelid was fair game. The little bugger kept pulling at it. It's one of those things: kind of funny, but not. If all's well that ends well, it's funny, that is.
