I placed my order to Ideal!

*JustChicky* :

I just got 20 chicks from them. I called them to make sure they were not sending males. They added another one of those straw pads (they ship them on) to the side of the box, which made the box smaller and warmer. All of mine made it. But I lost one, because she wouldn't eat? She was so weak, it was really sad (for me).

The Ideal 236 are crazy little things. They have been bouncing all over the place, since they arrived. Now they are trying to fly, they run the feeder like it is a flightline

. They are only a week old!

Before these chicks, I'd only raised a straight run of Dominiques (6 male/6 female) and whatever male Buffs they sent me. Is it just me or do the males seem restless from the beginning? Now, with all girls in the brooder they seem so much more relaxed than my last chicks. I also have 5 guineas in with them, but they don't bug the chicks. Oh yeah, I also have red heat lamps on them. That makes a big difference. A few of my Dominiques got cataracts, either from the white light or the others pecking them. So far I haven't had any problems with the red lamp.

Enjoy your new chicks! When do you get them?

My little Cal. Whites where doing the same thing my son and I were watching them having a blast and laughing our tail off at them! Stormy

In the past, the post office even called on a Sunday! A truck drove up and the only box that it had were the live chickens! I always told the people at the post office that I was expecting a box or two of chickens so that they could keep an eye out for them.

When and what hatcherys call you and tell you that chicks will not survive the trip , I have lost 8 chicks in 2 days and I am just wondering if they were not good to begin with.

Sorry. My post was probably confusing.
I was buying only 5 chicks total.
So since Ideal ships without a heatpack they said only 5 would not survive.
It wasn't like I ordered 30 and they said we'll send you 5 bad ones or anything...

5 ordered babies and 10 packing babies?
Well Ideal did help me with a replacement order that is coming
in 2 days hopefully I will not loose those.
good luck to all who are getting babies! post pics

How do they know 5 wont survive? Thats rediculous? They never told me any such thing....how can they possibly know that?

Since they ship out thousands (more than, actually) of chicks per year, I'm guessing they know from experience.
