One of the 4 peafowl from the August auction died suddenly 2 days ago. She was fine in the morning and dead by evening. Inside their 6x10 pen. None of them acted sick. I let the others out to free range (probably not smart) because I felt guilty somehow. Their pen is clean and dry and very well ventilated.

One of the others is now appearing to fluff up more than the others. I'm hoping she's not sick, but I bought a pkt of electrolytes and a pkt of duramycin-10.

Last night when I went to put everyone in, the peas were already roosting in the chicken coop with the chickens. I also have ducks that free range and one turkey (from same auction). They all drink from the same 5 gal bucket. (ducks empty chicken waterers.)

The turkey has a swollen eye and puffy face. He was attacked my a bee a few weeks ago. I assume he has an infection now since he showed no signs of swelling until several days after the attack. It seemed to be getting better and now looks worse.

I need to know what to treat and how....never had a sick bird.

Please

Gee, i dont know, i am new at this also. Hopefully someone will respond to you soon. Sorry about your pea. You might want to get each pen their own water container. We got tired of ours being knocked over so we hung the water and feed containers from chains and now dont have a problem. I also read on here somewhere that you shouldnt have ducks and other fowl together....but what do i know.

Anyone ??

Try a tablespoon of Molasses and a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar to a gallon of warm water. Use that for a few days. I hope that helps.

My 4 1/2 month old turkey found a bee's nest in the ground, in my flowers bed. He ran around for a couple of days with his eye shut and a runny nose. But he did snap out of it. I hope yours will too.

Do a search on "sinusitis" as what you describe on the turkey sounds pretty similar.. if it's a large lump between eye and beak, very likely sinusitis. It's a very common disease to hit turkeys and peafowl.

I think I'll cage the turkey and put him in the garage for a few days. Give him some antibiotics and extra protien. I won't eat him if I've medicated him, so I guess he gets a free pass out of this.

I'm thinking the peafowl go back into their house (they're roosting there tonight) for a couple of days and treat them as well. They don't show any symptoms and are free ranging nicely. But the one fatality scares me.

How much durmyacin 10 in a 5 gal bucket? I've found so many different answers

I put antibiotics in the peas water. Today one of them is even more lathargic. I let them out to free range this afternoon. That one doesn't have much interest in foraging. I don't know what to do.

You can see how the 2 white ones are fluffed and droopy. This was yesterday.

I'm new at all of this, too, but I've heard that peachicks can just drop dead like that anytime up until they are about three years old. From what I understand they are just very fragile. I'm sorry about your loss. I hope the other ones do well.
