But, if we call animal control enough(these dogs have a history..and the local authorities have responded very positively to her call..)...the dogs will be taken away..hopefully re-homed..if not re-homed, then humanely put down..not shot..*shivers*...AND i am assuming if you get your dogs taken away..you cant just go out and get more...they would ban you from owning dogs..for a while at least....
After 9 years with chooks, I just shoot it, if it's on my property. Domestic pedator or otherwise. My run is secure, but if its anywhere near my birds, it's lifespan is brief.
I've made a dramatic impact on how neighbours allow their pets to roam. They know what will happen to their beloved pet if it strays onto my property. As for the wild predators. I guess I keep the numbers in check while providing the turkey vultures a regular menu.
Call it cruel if you want, but nature can be that way as well. I didn't get into the poultry fancy so that I could provide predators with a free lunch.
I keep my birds safe by providing a secure environment & use the shotgun for eliminating ALL potential threats.
In my area there is no animal control. If there was, I would surely call them. Many rural area's don't have this wonderful option.
Usually, just stepping outside and aiming a gun and shooting past them will scare them away ( for awhile, anyway ).
I don't own a rifle. DH does but I don't really know how to use it. I have a 380 though that makes alot of noise. I used it in WI for early morning walking........just carried it on me for safety. It has a new purpose here though.
