Sounds a little too much like the Pluto mess to me... always was a planet, nope it's not change all the books, oh wait we might have been mistaken. What's really bizarre is that this isn't anything new, been around for a couple thousand years at least, but it's something that could put a hitch in your stride thus it qualifies as 'news'.

Ophiuchus is a Greek, Babylonian, and/or Japanese myth... Wikipedia says...

There are multiple versions of the story in Greek mythology. One states that Ophiuchus is identified with the healer Asclepius, son of Apollo, who became so skilled that he brought the dead back to life.[4] Then Hades became so angry that he convinced Zeus to kill Asclepius with a lightning bolt.[5] After his death, he was placed in the stars as a constellation.

Another version states that Asclepius witnessed a snake reviving a dead snake with herbs. Zeus then killed Asclepius with a thunderbolt to prevent the knowledge from spreading, but out of honor for his life works, turned him into the constellation Ophiuchus (The Snake Holder).

Clearly the reporter didn't do much research, just ran with the Snake Holder thing... makes me picture wrestlers or circus performers with a boa constrictor. Didn't bother to include that the reason behind the snake holder title is HEALING related. Creepy snake guy is so much more buzz wordy than healer.

If this ends up being accurate than me, my brother, my nephew, my niece, a cousin, Sis and Bro's Dad will be the 'new' sign... but I've already got a 13 b-day so I don't mind sticking with being an archer.... a mutable fire sign. Speaking of which, just how will having a 13th thrown in mess that bit up? Earth, Air, Fire and Water... four elements, three of each (mutable, fixed and cardinal) for a total of twelve. There's no multiple of 3 or 4 that equals 13... so, a new element would have to be introduced... spirit has long been considered a part of the world by some charts, so has metal... and a new quality as well... if the 'quality' is equated to states of matter, solid, liquid, and gas then it would make sense for plasma to be the new quality used. The 13 thing might just be precisely why they snipped this one. Most charts like nice neat multiples, this one throws that out the window. Which of course would also throw off the multiples used to match up this and that sign and the warnings of not matching this and that...

Eh, overthinking it I suppose... but I am curious I confess, to see what 'traits' they throw up for this sign. Should make for some interesting supper conversation.
