I rescued a hen beginning of August with a horrific, moldy, gangrenous wound...*Graphic photos! and

Wow, what an AMAZING thing you have done for that bird......most people would have never offered to give her a chance. I mean, looking at those pictures, I wouldnt think she would have ever made a recovery!!! What you did was so awesome....your perseverance. and her will to live sure did pay off. You should be so proud of yourself. This is an awesome story. Congrats to you.

That is Amazing

, i and i think all of us here would like to keep continuing her recovery all the way up to here inter grading into your flock. And i think a name should be in order for this little fighter, i know someone has already suggested it.

That wound was absolutely horrendous looking. Honestly, I'm stunned that she survived, even with your diligent and competent care. That's amazing, though. One tough chicken that apparently wanted to live and you did a fantastic job of giving her every opportunity to do it!

THANK YOU EVERYONE! for your kind words!

We named her VERY early on, as her care was very involved, and mentally intense... I started dubbing her Chickie-Chickie, though often refer to her only as Chickie.

I attempted to put her around another hen, another injured one we have taken in (though not as severe) today and she was extremely aggressive... I'm guessing her integration into the flock will be more time consuming than her healing and recovery!

She is currently molting right now, and she needs it!

Definately going to update this thread as we go with more photos, for sure!

I cannot wait to see her progress, either! You're the best, kwinnypoo! I wish our hens had been this strong. They all died from injuries that were so much... like... easier to cure than this! Oh well. Congrats!

Well done! I find chickens to be amazing animals. I too have seen some pretty bad wounds that were not to far off from what you had and they too healed. Who would have ever thought? Don't under estimate the healing of a chicken..... EVER! They will surprise you.

Chickie is still on the mend! I have since crocheted her a sweater (LOL RIGHT!) ... Her chest may never have feathers, and our Alaska weathers can be cold.

I took a few more photos of her wound, and her modeling her sweater :)

what a wonderful story and OMG not sure I would have had the guts or patience that you've shown;)

Love her in her sweater! Ya know I think you have a chickie house pet now, she looks mighty comfy living in the house, probably why she didn't like the other one, she is ruling the roost so to speak:)
