I've often had racoons, possums, and other various critters around that I'd put cat food out back for and have not lost a chicken to them yet. There is a pair of hawks that nest here and raise one baby every year. As a result, my chicken pen is covered! They still make me nervous with my chihuahuas, but so far no problems
