Can I ask what your EE/Cochin looks like?

Of course you can!!

Dad is a huge black cochin. Mom is a muffed EE. Her eggs are gorgeous sage green. Can not wait to see what the chick will look like. I have 11 mixes from this Roo in the brooder right now but none from this hen.

The cracks have been waxed, thankfully the cracks are on the top of the air pocket so I think the developing chicks will be safe from contamination......... they were still kicking quite well when I last looked at them so I hope they will be ok.....

This last week is going to be torture!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did something similar with one of my Cochin eggs- it's been waxed and is still growing.
Here's my candling count so far:

1- dark spot
2- dark spot -this is the cracked Cochin egg.
3-unclear
4-unclear
5-unclear
6-unclear
7-Big dark spot
8-dark spot ( think) can't tell if it's a spot or a shadow...
9-might have a shadowish spot on yolk.

#10 was added on the 3rd-
#11-15 were added on 3/5
#15 got tossed because yesterday the thermometer fell on it. I didn't think it had hurt it, but there was a crack in the egg. Since it was so early- I chucked it.
I've evened out the temp swings, but since I don't have a fan in my bator, there's colder spots in the bator. I'll be really surprised I get any chicks out of this test run. At least they are my own eggs & I know where I can get some more...

So... I got home from work, brought dinner, went to check on my 2 month old bantys who were VERY hungery (don't think daddy fed them), went to check on the week old baby bantys.....

... and saw no baby chicks in the cage! Then they heard me and started to peep, they were hidding behind their water. So I opened the cage and moved the water and there were my last 6 babies

1 dead and the other five standing on top of it. I scooped the last ones up in 1 hand(thats how litle they are) and put them into a box... as I did this 1 kinda fell onto the shavings. So I picked it up closed the box and ran to the house to tend to the little one. It died shortly after...

I cried... Now I am down to 4 and so sad! I made a new brooder for the last 4 and have put them in my bathroom. I don't know how the chick in the cage died it was totally wet, but I had marbles in their water, ALL the shavings in the cage were wet...

So sorry for your loss. My guess would be that it played in the water and got to wet and was not able to warm itself back up. I had that happen to one last year.

I candled the eggs last night.

Out of 18 eggs:
2 never started (young birds that just started laying, and the ones I was hoping for the most of coarse)
8 have obvious chick movement
8 ? have veining, but not obvious chick movement like the others

This is my first hatch, and most of these birds are young so I was very excited about the results.

I also set 22 eggs on the 30th

1 clear egg
4 that have hairline cracks that were not obvious until candleing. Ugh
everything else looks good so far.
